Audio documentary Tipping the Iceberg

Today, we publish the audio documentary Tipping the Iceberg about food insecurity in the Arctic region for which we made recordings in August 2023. A trip to never forget. A big thanks to Silja Zimmermann who invited me to join her to St. Paul, Alaska.

Why it is worth listening? To hear Kukax (grandmother) Zee on the picture about the thrills of colonialism and serfdom (which took up until 1983) of the Aleut community on Alaska.

To step onboard with fisherman Shane to hear about what overfishing actually means for small communities who really on it for subsistence (and who cannot go out fishing anymore whilst large trawling companies can).

To join Jacob Merculieff on a ride to Big Zapadni beach and hear about the seal harvest which he joined in since the 1970s.

To listen to the teenager Destiny who joins in for subsistence activities and shares her favourite memories.
