Avangrid and Invenergy have each secured two lease areas in the Gulf of Maine auction, where total bids exceeded USD 21.9 million (approximately EUR 20 million), marking the first lease sale in the region and the first for floating offshore wind on the US Atlantic coast.
Avangrid won OCS-564 for USD 4.9 million, which consists of 98,565 acres, and OCS-568 for USD 6.2 million, which consists of 124,897 acres.
Invenergy secured the OCS-562 area for USD 4.9 million, which consists of 97,854 acres, and OCS-567, which covers 117,780 acres, for USD 5.9 million.
South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) has opened a tender for 2.8 GW of wind and solar energy capacity, 1.5 GW of which is being sought through offshore wind.
On 25 October, Korea’s Energy Agency’s Renewable Energy Center issued an invitation to tender which seeks to award 1 GW of fixed-bottom offshore wind and 500 MW of floating wind projects.
The price for offshore wind projects, including floating wind, is capped at KRW 176,565/MWh (around EUR 118/MWh), according to a press release MOTIE published on 25 October.

The Maltese government is expected to soon publish a pre-qualification questionnaire for parties interested in floating wind development in the country.
This is according to a consultation document issued this September, prior to the country’s Budget 2025 that was announced on 28 October.
The government first identified six areas for floating wind development and later pinpointed two which are planned to be put out to tender. This summer, offshore surveys started in the two areas.
Colombia’s Ministry of Mining and Energy has published a list of nine companies that have submitted documents to qualify for the country’s first offshore wind tender. The final list of companies that will be eligible to bid in the first half of 2025 is expected in December.
In its first offshore wind tender, the Colombian government aims to allocate areas where between 1 GW and 3 GW of offshore wind capacity can be installed.
The offshore wind projects under the first round are planned to be built mainly in shallow and deep water maritime areas of the departments of Atlántico, Bolívar, southern Magdalena and northern Sucre.
