Here is a summary of each class, including links to their pages, and how they work together to reach the objective.

Description

Revit software’s MEP Analysis has seen significant advancements in recent releases. However, given the multitude of options available for model generation, it remains a challenge to ensure consistency and efficiency when producing a model that can be used for analysis. This presentation will present a data-driven workflow to efficiently generate a building while providing sufficient detail for room-by-room load calculations and accommodating the ever-present possibility of changes during the design phase of a project. Using powerful Revit tools like schedules, views, and families greatly improves the likelihood of generating a clean model. Potential workflows include starting from a 3D model or a 2D plotted or scanned PDF.

??This class focuses on data-driven conceptual workflows for early-stage energy modeling and highlights detailed room-by-room thermal load calculations using the Revit System Analysis framework. It emphasizes the significance of utilizing Revit's advanced MEP analysis tools and sets the foundation for more data-centric workflows in the following classes.

Revit's MEP Systems Analysis, Thermal Loads, HVAC Automation

Description

In this session, product team members will present an overview of how the new electrical analytical workflow provides an on-ramp to electrical design based on building information modeling (BIM). Capturing engineering requirements using minimal model creation overhead provides capabilities that are historically disconnected and spread across multiple applications. We’ll discuss what's next for these workflows and explain our vision for connecting to downstream design. We’ll also share some insights into how this functionality ties to the Advanced Electrical Design for Revit offering from Schneider Electric.

??Class Page

??Building on the foundational early-stage analytical analysis for mechanical engineers this class coves its electrical counterpart. The session introduces Revit's new electrical analytical workflow. It's a pivotal link in the MEP chain, connecting design initiation to comprehensive BIM-based solutions, and aligns with the idea of doing more with less in the schematic phase of projects.

Revit Electrical Analytical systems, Engineering automation

Description

This session will cover importing Revit systems, zones, and spaces from Revit System Analysis into HVAC Solution Pro software and creating intelligent HVAC system schematics. HVAC loads can also be imported from industry-leading load providers. This data automatically builds systems, calculates projects, and selects HVAC equipment from equipment manufacturers. "What if" scenarios can be modeled using various equipment parameters and weather data. Various coordination files can be automatically created, including equipment schedules, schematics, electrical schedules, detailed reports, etc. With our Revit add-in, the schematics and schedules can easily be placed in a Revit drafting view. We use the Revit API to create custom schedules. Various systems can be created, including air, hydronic, steam, plumbing, refrigerant, VRF, fuel gas, and controls. See how what used to take days and weeks now takes minutes and hours.

??Class Page

??This presentation builds on the work done with the Revit System Analysis in the area of HVAC systems. Joe demonstrates how his third-party software HVAC Solution Pro can create intelligent schematics and efficient system designs using data from a Revit project. This highlights the interoperability between different software applications within the MEP domain.

??David's guide on Revit MEP covers all aspects of MEP systems engineering in Revit and emphasizes the importance of data management throughout the project lifecycle. The session starts with an overview of the improvements in energy modeling and the integration of analytical tools for electrical and HVAC systems. David then demonstrates how to set up MEP systems to maximize the benefits of Revit, including automated duct layouts, quick annotations, and proper flow for pressure drop calculation. This session is essential for anyone interested in understanding the evolving landscape of MEP system modeling and leveraging the available tools for engineering design in Revit.

Revit MEP, Enginnering, Autodesk Revit MEP Tool HVAC Automation

Description

We’ve added the capability to calculate flow in Fabrication in Revit 2024 software. But how did we do this? Revit has introduced a new way to calculate flow and pressure drop. This session will show you how to achieve real-world scenarios in Revit. See how the new solver provides more opportunities to use flow within Revit (fabrication elements, parallel flow, bypass, and loops).

??Class Page

??Autodesk's commitment to innovation and improvement is reflected in the latest version of Revit MEP. The new flow calculations in Revit are designed to better match real-world scenarios, which were previously difficult to model accurately. In Dave Butts's class, attendees will learn the proper modeling techniques required to leverage Revit 2024's new capabilities. This class builds off that knowledge to calculate flow and pressure drop in complex hydronic systems provideing an overview of these new features and their applications.

Description

The MEP industry has experienced a swift adoption of various digital tools, resulting in a growing demand for data exchange between diverse software applications. However, the fragmented nature of the ecosystem often leads to inconsistencies and errors in data transfer, making it difficult to maintain a seamless MEP workflow. This course explores how you can maximize Revit software’s Data Exchange feature to overcome the data curation and sharing challenge. We’ll delve into various use cases, including exchanging grids and levels, identifying and selecting elements from specific data exchanges incorporated into your model, transferring central plant models from Inventor software to Revit, and working with room data using Microsoft Power Automate. You’ll learn how to create and share data exchanges and consume data exchanges created and shared by Autodesk users and non-Autodesk software users.

??Class Page

??My class addresses the critical aspect of linking all these classes together and a new approach to doing so. The class examines a few of the common data challenges we still face in our workflows and how Autodesk's new Data Exchange framework could address these challenges. It focuses on maximizing Revit’s Data Exchange feature for seamless integration across various digital tools, a cornerstone for efficient and error-free MEP project execution, and ends with a data-centric and highly automated workflow that uses the cloud to go from Revit model directly to automated fabrication.

Description

In this session, you’ll (re)join Autodesk Product Development and Impact team members, plus customers and partners, to learn about recent and future developments in total carbon data, analysis, and insights. This is a follow-up to our Autodesk University 2022 class of the same title (link below). It will provide an in-depth look at new capabilities across the Autodesk ecosystem.

??Class Page

??Although it was not an official technical demonstration or part of the unofficial MEP track, I would like to mention Ian Molly's class which covered the new Total Carbon Analysis tools that the Autodesk Product Development team has been working on. One of the things that excited and inspired me the most at AU this year was the user experience when defining your dashboard. It's often the small details that can be the most impactful! On top of Ian's class, he helps organize the collaboration between all these wonderful MEP classes.

Autodesk new insight, carbon analysis

Over the last couple of years, we have seen a significant evolution in MEP design and analysis through Revit. Autodesk University has played a vital role in showcasing the possibilities of what we can achieve now and what the future holds for MEP design. This year's event was particularly exciting, as it demonstrated how we can use the latest tools to streamline the entire MEP design process from conceptual design to detailed fabrication. The conference brought together technology and industry expertise, providing attendees with valuable insights and a roadmap to navigate and master the complexities of modern MEP workflows. Overall, it has been a fun and informative journey so far, and I look forward to what the future holds for MEP design with Autodesk.

I hope these classes help raise awareness of what is possible, inspire the adoption of innovative processes, help you better connect your workflows, and reflect on your real-world experiences.
