Attract, hire, and retain top talent with expert advice from Amanda Gordon??

“If you're building a talent strategy based on a sample you saw online or a book you read, you won't match what your business needs... It was shocking how often I would look then at the talent strategy and couldn’t see the business connect. That’s why you’re struggling because your programs probably aren’t resonating with people and you’re spending money where you shouldn’t be.”
- Amanda Gordon

The Question

How to attract stars to your team?

As entrepreneurs, founders, leaders and managers alike, we're often hyper-focused on the customer journey. We obsess over making sure our product is positioned correctly in the market, and our processes are knit.

But what about our teams?

After all, they're the ones who are making our vision a reality and driving the success of our company.

Too often talent is fully left up to HR with a misaligned strategy.

Creating a strong talent culture fit within our organizations is crucial. We need to ensure our employees feel valued, empowered, and have the necessary tools to succeed. But how do we attract top talent? How do we hire the right people? And once we have them on board, how do we engage and develop them to reach their full potential?

All is revealed with our guest, Amanda Gordon.

Episode Takeaways

  • You can learn a lot about your talent strategy with 3 questions.?Why did they join? Why did they stay and why did they leave??These questions are what inform your employee value proposition. Only then can you start analyzing what's currently working and what's not. Then you begin to build out the correct programs to address your unique needs. This drastically helps your ability to build teams that then fit your organization. If we create value propositions for our customers, why don't we create ones for our employees?

  • Employee Value Proposition needs to be aligned with your business goals.?Once you've identified your employee value proposition you can align it to your talent strategy. This helps inform how you recruit the right people for the long term. Otherwise, you risk having programs that probably aren't resonating with people. You overspend your resources spinning your wheels by hiring and developing the wrong talent. Ask yourself,?what would have to be true for your organization to get to 10 million, 25 million, 50 million, or even a hundred million??The team, the people are your driving force to get there. Keep that in mind to help guide your strategy when selecting new team members.

  • Talent strategy is about matching the puzzle pieces.?Building a great team is not about finding the one missing cookie-cutter superstar. It's also about compatibility. You need to understand the current team and identify what's missing. What's the team's working and communication style? Their values? Their workflow? How will they grow and develop? How will they be engaged and retained in the long term? There are a lot of things to look out for that match the candidate to the team. Instead of simply answering do they have the skills to do the job?

One of the easiest ways to attract stars is to mould them yourself. Students and recent grads are a great pool of candidates to start with.
