Attorney Coach Finds Peace While Growing His Business

Meet Robin Groen, PCC. He had his own practice as a judicial officer in the Netherlands for over 12 years. Three and a half years ago he decided to venture into coaching, and currently works with mid-career attorneys who want to grow their practice and create a solid work-life balance as well. What sets Robin apart is that he is not only intelligent, he also has a big heart. His clients really need him because most professionals in that field are in their heads, due to the nature of their business. Robin helps?his?clients to drop down into their hearts.??

In early 2021, going into the second year of the pandemic, Robin was feeling lost on his entrepreneurial journey. He felt what he was doing in his business wasn’t going to blossom. For some, 2020 was a?challenging?year financially, and Robin was in that boat. “A part of me felt?distressed?that I couldn’t do it myself. I had been an entrepreneur since 2006, so why could I build a judicial officer practice and couldn’t just even fill a small coaching practice??But it’s an entirely different kind of work. The marketing is different. The sales are different. And you’ve got to learn that.”?

He shared with me in early 2021 he was reflecting on what he tells his clients, “Having a coach is great and you can get great results beyond your imagination.” I always say, coaching is an investment, not an expense. Robin recognized that, and that’s when he decided it was time to join the Quick Start Intensive and receive some coaching himself.??

Over the course of 6 months, Robin has been in two QSI programs and his investments are paying off! In one 6-week period, Robin booked almost $23,000 of business. Robin attributes this success to a few key activities.??

Robin stepped up his LinkedIn presence, sharing information targeted toward his ideal clients, but also drawing in other followers. Instead of concentrating too?much?on the number of video views or engagements, he perseveres in putting his content out there. He learned that a lot of his clients may not have engaged with his posts, but at some point, they reached out to him. In his follow-up with potential clients, he focuses on the action of listening (which we are great at as coaches) and following through. Clients are noticing his presence on LinkedIn, and he is connecting with them on a personal level.??

Another key activity Robin attributes to his success is social media videos. It is beyond his comfort zone, but he does them anyway. “If we want to push our clients, we have to be able to push ourselves,” Robin admits. Rather than getting overwhelmed by creating content, he does shorter videos, and posts them on Tic Tok, LinkedIn, and Facebook. Cross marketing and recycling content has helped him to increase his social media presence and not be intimidated by creating?so much new?content.??

What made a huge difference for Robin was finding his niche. Getting to know his ideal client, understanding the basic problem they want to solve, focusing on the solution he offers, and developing his ultimate offer has helped him engage with those ideal clients. I am impressed that Robin has completed over 45 market research conversations?to date; those conversations are turning into client relationships.?

The results Robin has achieved are fantastic!?Not only has he increased his income, he is more at peace with himself and the world. After a couple years of working himself ragged, he has better working hours, so he has more life-balance. "You are worth it. You truly are. As coaches, we are doing work that changes the world. We’re doing work with heart, and we want to do it for our clients because we wish them well. We want to help them be the best they can be and, therefore, we have to evolve ourselves -- and we need to make the investment in ourselves to be able to be there for our clients.”?
