MedSnake Media Offers Expedient Solution to Medicaid Providers
Starting November 1, 2019, there will be a critical shift in the way North Carolina Medicaid providers will be required to bill for their services. If healthcare providers in NC do not prepare now and make proper plans to adhere to the new rules and regulations, their payments may be tardy or denied altogether.
The New Medicaid Rule in North Carolina:
FYI: The top 10 providers that take Medicaid in the state of North Carolina that may be most affected by the new rules are:
- Family Doctors
- Internists
- Pediatricians
- Obstetricians / Gynecologists (OBGYN)
- Surgeons
- Orthopedic Surgeons
- Radiologists
- Psychiatrists
- Cardiologists
- Emergency Doctors.
Currently, most Medicaid insured healthcare professionals in NC are going through a Local Management Entity (LME) or Managed Care Organization (MCO) in order to accept Medicaid patients. However, as of November 1st, 2019, LME’s and MCO’s will release 90% of the providers they currently service.
What Medicaid Providers in North Carolina Need to Do to Prepare:
This means one thing: North Carolina Medicaid providers must become paneled or credentialed with the following 4 insurance companies:
- Blue Cross and Blue Shield
- United Health Care
- AmeriHealth
- WellCare
Preparing insurance panels and becoming accepted by the above insurance companies can take as long as 180 days. It is imperative for Medicaid providers in NC to start preparing now, to assure that payments are not withheld or released tardy come November and prevent their bottom line profits from being negatively affected updated Medicaid rules and regulations.
What Medicaid Providers in North Carolina Need to Do to Prepare:
Co-founder of MedSnake Media, Courtney Harring, attended a webinar “Provider Transition to Medicaid Managed Care” on March 28th which explained the Medicaid changes in-depth, as she desires to educate and prepare her clientele.
Some providers and agencies have already started to reach out to her and the MedSnake team for more insight and credentialing assistance, but most Medicaid providers in North Carolina are not even aware of this change.
When questioned about this critical Medicaid development, Courtney Harring commented:
“Being proactive is the key to success in this scenario. Healthcare providers that accept Medicaid in the State of North Carolina need to educate their patients, their clients, as well as their staff members, and they need to do so immediately. It may not seem like it, but November 1st is right around the corner and proper credentialing takes months.”
How MedSnake Media Can Help:
Courtney Harring went on to describe five things that all Medicaid providers in North Carolina can begin to do to prepare for the November 1st change:
- Speak with a credentialing professional
- Educate all of your patients or clients regarding the change
- Delegate someone in-house to attend all webinars and/or in-person meetings
- Get educated about the new billing system
- Be proactive
