Attitude: The Silent Architect of Your Destiny

There has never been a day when I’m not working on my attitude… and hmm, let’s be honest, some days, it feels like a full-time job lol! But I remind myself of this: every day is another opportunity to get it right.
Some days are smooth, and others feel like God has me on a divine treadmill (lol), but ultimately, He has an amazing way of nudging me back into alignment.
This February, our focus is on the heart. It’s time for an inward audit - fixing what needs to change so we can keep pace with God.
I have seen, time and again, how adjusting a negative attitude has helped me build and restore relationships that might have otherwise been shipwrecked. Many of us have lost love, opportunities, and even divine blessings simply because of a bad attitude. It’s sobering to realize that something as small as an unchecked mood swing can delay the favour God wants to release.
A great attitude is a spiritual game-changer - it moves mountains! The enemy is an expert at whispering lies, convincing us that our feelings of bitterness, pride, or offence are justified. Why? Because he knows he loses ground when we step into the light. Jesus said, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden” (Matthew 5:14). If we let our light shine, we make the enemy’s job very difficult.
As we engage in spiritual warfare, we must recognize that the state of our heart determines the quality of our victory. Proverbs 4:23 reminds us, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Your heart is not just a pumping organ; it’s your control centre. A cluttered, toxic heart produces a messy life.
I write from daily experience and trust me, God is constantly working on me. My hope is that these truths will take root in you and manifest in your daily life - at work, at home, and even in traffic - (wink)!
Let’s not hand the enemy free victories just because we let our emotions run the show. Each day, we must command our day from a pure heart. Jesus said, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God” (Matthew 5:8). Purity isn’t just about morality; it’s about clarity - seeing God move, hearing His voice, and walking in His wisdom.
David understood this when he cried out in Psalm 51:10-12, “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.” A right spirit shifts atmospheres, opens doors, and makes room for grace.
So, what should you do when your attitude is going south?
First, the Holy Spirit will nudge you - softly at first, and if ignored, maybe with a situation that forces you to listen. The real question is: will you obey, and will you obey quickly?
On tough days, get away from distractions, find a quiet place, and have a real conversation with God. Reflect on the possible fallout of persisting in a negative attitude. Proverbs 14:12 warns, “There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.” The lies will come - the justifications for pride, anger, greed, or self-pity - but remember, “The wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight” (1 Corinthians 3:19). God’s wisdom may seem upside-down, but it always leads right-side-up.
My prayer for you (and me) is that we will continually be refined, growing into the people God designed us to be.
Stay focused. Keep growing in faith. Let your attitude be your ally, not your enemy. And if all else fails, remember - sometimes, the only thing standing between you and your breakthrough is just a better attitude.
Love,
Esther
