Attitude First, Proficiencies Second.

Attitude First, Proficiencies Second.

You may guess that the last 15 years building a business has not been without its ups and downs, which as I write these words the thought occurs to me, that saying this is an understatement, (however, that in itself is another story altogether). One of the hardest things to navigate has been building the right team of people, and it remains one of the trickiest skills that I have learned to date...

Customers use any company, service or provider because they like the person, in our case that's because they like Barry, Vicki, Scott, Dave or one of our lovely front line engineers and the thing I learned here was that it was attitude first and proficiencies second, I can teach that later, well Barry can anyway.

As it happens we are looking for engineers to join the team and I thought, perhaps I should ask one of the guys to write something down to show potential new team members what its like to be an engineer within WFP. At that moment, one of our engineers, Paul (confusing I know) walked through the door after a day fixing alarms and solving problems, so I seized the moment and asked him to write something that I could show prospective engineers.

Without any editing I have copied below Paul's email and if you read this and think 'that sounds like where I'd like to work' then message me on LinkedIn or call me on 07966 178113 for an informal chat, here goes...

As requested...

What is it like to work at WFP from a engineers perspective?

Firstly, I’m not being paid for a good review, or threatened with my career if I give a negative reflection. I have been asked for my honest perception, so here it is.....

I’ve worked for three previous companies, but was always looking for that ever elusive company with values & morales from a time long forgotten. Then an engineer friend of mine put me in touch with WFP.

After a short interview with MD Paul Field, I was sold. He spoke with such passion about the company they were, and the dream of what he’d like it to be. Paul is a Navy man, who still holds those values from back in the day.

Being part of a team that really cares about the standard and quality of work that we provide, with total honesty to our clients, is really a privilege.

WFP have a technical director who can actually see the matrix in his head. With years of experience, he happily provides training, guidance and support to his engineers to be the best that they can be, and always has your back should it go wrong.

We have a very experienced senior engineer that gives up his own free evenings every month to provide training evenings to the other engineers, and it even comes with free pizza!

When you speak to our Servicedesk team, it’s the difference between speaking to Bobs Autos down the road when your car service is due, or being assisted by a Mercedes Dealership. The WFP team provide that extra something special, that chic finesse, personal attention that you don’t get anywhere else.

Then we have Dave, our proficient man in sales. Dave is also a Navy man who holds that same infectious passion for what we do, and like a fine wine, does it with class.

I’m proud to be an engineer of WFP. Some engineers spend their entire careers searching for what I’m lucky enough to have found at WFP. Don’t believe me? .....Come in a see us for a chat

Kind regards

Paul B
