Attitude + Choices = Life
Attitude decides the altitude of a man.
What is attitude? It is the way we respond and react to different situations in our life.
Two people encountering the same situation will respond differently owing to their different attitudes.
I know of two brothers- CR Das and PR Das in Kolkata. Their father was an alcoholic and used to misbehave with their mother. Both brothers grew up listening to abusive language and watching the misdemeanour of their father. Later in life, CR Das became a well-known advocate of Kolkata High court. Sadly, PR Das could only manage to become a known drunkard. Once somebody asked CR Das about his motivation in becoming a successful lawyer, he disclosed that his father was his motivation! He went to say that whenever he would see his father in a drunken state, he would promise himself that he would never touch alcohol and to work hard to become a dignified professional. Being the brother of a renowned advocate, PR Das was also asked why his life had not taken a similar turn as his brother’s and he responded that for him too his father was the motivation. He said that whenever he would see his father drunk and misbehaving with his mother, he would feel like taking revenge and started drinking from the school days itself.
It reminds me of another Biblical story of David and Goliath. Goliath was a demon who used to do a lot of atrocities to the people residing in nearby villages. People were fed up and very angry with him and wanted to kill him. But nobody used to dare the same due to lack of courage. David, a little boy, was also fed up with this evil creature. David’s brother visited the village and after knowing about Goliath, he asked David,”Why don’t you kill him?” David replied, “He is too big to hit”. David’s brother answered, “Damn it! He is too big to miss”. David took his small sling and walked to where Goliath was. He picked up a stone from the ground, placed it in the sling and aimed at Goliath’s head. Just one shot and Goliath fell down with a thud. He was killed. That is why it has been rightly said that “Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference”. By adopting the right attitude one can convert a negative stress into a positive one.
Let me tell you about another interesting account where attitudes matter. BATA India had once sent a representative to South Africa to check on the opportunity of establishing a shoe factory there. The representative, after studying the situation, remarked, “No opportunity as no one wears shoes here”. Pursuing the desire to expand their business, BATA sent another representative to South Africa again. This time, the representative responded,” Great opportunity as no one wearing shoes here”.
This is the difference that a positive attitude can make. The positive attitude leads to success and is a trainable quality, depending on the environment one lives in, the company of people you spend with and the types of books you read.
In Winston Churchill’s words, “Attitude is a little thing that can make a big difference”.
The problem is not the problem.
?The real problem is your attitude about the problem.
