This complaint from one of my customers Leo in Europe, their container order was delayed for a few weeks due to shipment.
Actually, we are ready to load the container at the end of September, but Leo's shipping forwarder couldn’t book the cabin, after few weeks of hard work, they finally got the cabin, but the shipping company said no 40ft container available.
Yes, Container shortage is an enormous unseen challenge currently, overseas local port are shouting
"We can't stack any more containers".
However, Chinese domestic shipping companies are shouting
"container, what! Where is the container?".
This is the current situation: almost all shipping companies in China no containers available for export.
Especially 40ft containers. Empty 40-foot-containers are currently in short supply – more than ever before.
Taking a cabinet is comparable to buy train tickets during the Chinese Spring Festival. It is very very hard to have one.

Here is the answer: Due to the epidemic, global trade was fall and slowly for the past half-year.
The overseas exports have dropped a lot (means Chinese imports decreased).

so that's why the container shortage now very challenges.
Besides, the price increasing and increased very crazy. All routes are "annihilated".
The shipping company charges more than hundreds of extra container surcharge.
The decline of international logistics capacity has led to a sharp increase in container ship freight rates. The freight rates of the West American route have increased nearly 3 times compared with the beginning of the year, and the freight rates of South American routes have also skyrocketed!
Under this circumstance, all industries have frequently seen shortages and dumping of containers! Including Textainer and Triton, the world's top three container equipment leasing companies said that

On European routes, the European epidemic rebounded sharply, the market volume was generally stable, and the freight rate rose.
The Mediterranean route, similar to Europe, has slightly increased freight rates.
North American routes are operating at a high level in the market. Overtime ships have appeared in order to relieve the tight capacity, and most of them are fully loaded. The freight rate of the route is basically the same.
On the Persian Gulf route, the supply and demand situation was generally stable, and the freight rate increased by 2.2%.
The Australia-New Zealand route is in the peak season before Christmas, and the relationship between supply and demand is good, and the price of spot booking increased by 10.4%.
On South American routes, the transportation demand was at a high level, and the freight rate rose again after the return, and the spot booking price increased by 3.4%.
