Are you a pharmacist and concerned about potential armed robbery of your pharmacy?
Here’s a link to an April 21, 2017 article by Ken Fagerman, RPh, MM that he wrote for Pharmacy Times, where he reported that Pharmacy Armed Robbery statistics are slightly down in 2016: https://www.pharmacytimes.com/news/recent-pharmacy-robbery-statistics
One key reason for the reduction in robberies is the installation of time-delayed opening narcotic safes in many pharmacy locations.
Further, the article elaborates on the preventative safeguards you should be taking in advance, and the processes and procedures you should follow should your store be robbed.
However, although the article does offer valuable content, it falls short of providing you with the actual expertise required to do a full on-site and metrics based risk assessment to determine areas of high risk and security sensitivity. Nor does it prescribe solutions for you that would be based on the findings revealed in a thorough risk assessment.
My recommendation is that you use this article as a starting point for beginning the conversation within your organization about what you can do to mitigate the risk of robbery to your pharmacy and how to protect yourself and your pharmacy staff from harm in the event of a robbery.
At Lowers & Associates, we have expertise in healthcare security for risk assessment and mitigation. If interested, we are happy to discuss ways in which we can protect your people, property and yes, your profits too.
