Then why are we all wasting it away so wantonly?
Compared to most of human history, these are abundant times.?

You no longer have to stockpile food, or fuel for warmth like our ancestors did.
Time and money were front runners in the most valuable category.?
Now the one commodity has suddenly become more precious than either: your attention.
There'd be no Google, Facebook, or traditional media were your attention not worth millions.
Sadly we're receiving so much stimuli and information in the modern world.?
Most of us are deficient in dopamine due to being bombarded with data and the amount of choice we have available to direct our attention.
That's created an attention crisis, especially in the young.

I recently watched an interview where Prof Joel Nigg, one of the leading experts in the world on children’s attention problems, said we’re now developing “an attentional pathogenic culture” – an environment in which sustained and deep focus is harder for all of us.?
His colleague Prof Barbara Demeneix, a leading French scientist who has studied some key factors that can disrupt attention, said “There is no way we can have a normal brain today.”?
We can see the effects all around us. A small study of college students found they now only focus on any one task for 65 seconds.?
A different study of office workers found they only focus on average for three minutes. This isn’t happening because we all individually became weak-willed.?
Our focus didn’t collapse.?
It was stolen.
The question for you as a CEO, is how can you steal it back.

I want to add that a distraction industry complex (The DICs) also exists because if too many people paid attention to their own work and life it would collapse the structure of power, which ironically operates on dialing down the attention span of the many, so that the few can run the systems. Consolidation is the name of the technology game when it comes to the systems that run our lives.
