Attention Leaders – Mentor Up!
Ralph Kison
Empowering and developing technical professionals and organizations through leadership development, coaching, and advisory services.
If your employees are unable to perform their job to the expected level, if they frustrate their colleagues because of the need to redo what someone couldn't do right the first time, and if customers become frustrated and leave because the person serving them just can't do it right, it's your responsibility to remedy the situation.
Employees who are incompetent or not at the skill level that's required are not necessarily lazy or uncaring people. In many cases, they want to do the work and do it well, but they've not been trained, mentored, or coached . If ignored, they may become cynical and indifferent and become a liability as opposed to an asset and valuable employee.
Active and engaged leadership is still absent in too many organizations today. A weekly TEAMS or Zoom meeting is insufficient to lead a team and provide direction. Deeper connection and a positive relationship is required.
Rather than blame your employees for something they're not doing correctly, start by being the leader that provides what they need.

“A mentor is someone who sees more talent and ability within you, than you see in yourself, and helps bring it out of you.”?— Bob Proctor

1 个月Great post Ralph! Many organizations with a active HR Department tend to hire only on Required Qualifications and seem to ignore the importance of a Desired Qualifications. Many times the new hire might be qualified to do the work or may have been trained differently and just does not fit in to the culture. Skills can be taught but 'attitude' is not so easily corrected.
