Attention Employees: Its Time To Give

Attention Employees: Its Time To Give

There is a challenge between give and take. When we think about employees entering the marketplace today, so often organizations are spending time thinking about ways to recruit and maintain talent. The one thing that seems to be going by the wayside is what can the candidate or the employee give back ? Recently,?I was having a conversation with someone who kept telling me how fatigued they were and while I think that's a reality, we also have to be conscientious we have businesses to run and ?revenue to bring in. With that being said, every single employee has to ask themselves, what can I give? What can I do to assist my organization to be successful? I share this with great diplomacy. When things get tough, most employees will start looking for jobs to protect themselves and that's a natural instinct. Few employees will say, let me help my organization through these rough waters or these difficult times.

?The value of the employee has seemed to have lost its brand. We need employees who can step forward and go above and beyond the call of duty. Even when fatigued, it's called resilience. My daughter who goes to Ithaca college in New York, had a job with a retail chain and she transferred from one location in Wisconsin to New York, and both organizations offered her management positions. I thought here's a 20 year old kid for a lack of better description, getting these offers and I thought, why is she really qualified? Then it hit me. She does three things that sadly stand out today:

  1. ?She shows up on time.
  2. She puts in a good day's work
  3. She will stay late if she's asked going above and beyond the call of duty.

?These don't seem like huge issues, but sadly, these are the very things that differentiate people. We are going through a difficult time. We are coming out on the back end of a difficult time. So now can organizations look at employees and say, the pandemic has passed us let's get back to work or will employees continue to push back? We have to find a balance and I think employees have to raise their hand and say, how can I help you? Here's what I can give you.

?Here are five things every employee should consider asking themselves and taking action upon:

  1. ?How can I show up with a positive attitude and disposition every single day so people around me are comfortable?
  2. What can I do to assist my boss and teammates to ensure that we are successful?
  3. Where do I need to raise my game to demonstrate toughness and resilience?
  4. How do I need to elevate my own self-awareness specific to how I’m perceived by others so I can maximize my approachability and coachability?
  5. What motivates me and how can I go about taking that learning and working with my peers in upper-level management to assist me in my own personal development as long as the organization benefits as well?

?

These questions seem very pro organization yet if one looks at the aforementioned questions there?also benefiting the employee.

A good one .. yhh indeed a 2 way road. Based on my limited observations, i have seen people leave managers rather than organisation. If employers are able to take care of the emotional well being and of the correct financial value they are offering to employees, then definitely it's the right of every employee to give back more than 90 percent of his or her energy to the organization even in the crises situation.
