The original article was written in 2019, but I took the time to refresh and expand the topic for 2023 and beyond. I'm keeping the original audio for those of you who want to listen. Hope you like the update!
Trusting the Experts
Just like many of you tuning in right now, I’ve had my fair share of clients who bring my team and me on board to handle everything - from web design and development to growth hacking and even social media management. But, there's always that handful who resist letting go of the reins. I'm talking about those clients who can't seem to relinquish full access to their woo-commerce platform or git repository. Some limit us to strictly FTP, and others take the proverbial wheel and tamper with our work, despite hiring us for our expertise.
Wrestling Over Control
And that's not all. I've worked with clients who've enlisted us to completely take over their social media management, only to find they are second-guessing, editing, and effectively blocking our every move. Some don't even give us access to their social media accounts after signing us on as their new agency of record. As Daymond John often says, "Align yourself with the right people, forge the right relationships, and you'll set yourself up for long-term success." This principle applies to clients and agencies as well.
Embracing Change, Inviting Success
I understand the need for control – it's your business, after all. But to those entrepreneurs out there who are reluctant to step back, I urge you to reconsider. Remember why you hired experts in the first place. Let us do what we do best. You wouldn't step into a kitchen and tell a Michelin-starred chef how to cook your meal, right? So why do it with your website or social media?

The Power of Delegation
One of the hallmarks of successful entrepreneurs like Gary Vaynerchuck and Steven Bartlett is knowing when to delegate and trusting their team to execute the vision. They understand that progress often involves letting go and allowing experts to take the wheel. They review the results, provide feedback, and continually improve – but they don't obstruct the process. You hired experts for a reason; let them prove their worth.
Concluding Thoughts
So, to all the business owners out there, I say - let go of the wheel. Don't fear the process. Embrace the expertise you've brought onboard. Review the results, and provide constructive feedback, but allow the professionals to do their job. It's about trust and collaboration. Together, we can drive your business forward and create something truly exceptional.
