This past week, I was fortunate enough to be at the official launch of the Royal Enfield INT Bear 650, and it was an experience that will stay with me for a long time. Not only did I get to witness the unveiling of this highly anticipated motorcycle, but I also had the thrill of test-riding it through the picturesque, winding roads of Joshua Tree and Palm Springs—a ride that proved just how versatile and enjoyable this new addition to the Royal Enfield lineup truly is.
A Testament to Growth and Passion
Having spoken before about Royal Enfield’s steady progression and impressive ability to iterate and evolve, the Bear 650 stands as another testament to the company’s dedication. Their approach isn’t just about refining what works; it’s about listening intently to their riders and incorporating that feedback into the design and performance of their machines. This openness to engagement and feedback has set Royal Enfield apart, not only in their product development but in the way they interact with their community. It’s a brand where staff at every level, from engineers to customer service, exude a palpable passion for what they do—and I can say with confidence that they’re some of the nicest people I’ve met in the motorcycle industry.
A Perfect Price Point for Expanding Horizons
The Bear 650, like many models before it, is perfectly positioned in terms of price. This strategic pricing makes it an attractive option for a broad range of riders, from younger enthusiasts entering the world of motorcycling to seasoned riders looking for a change in style. It’s an exciting entry point that encourages diversity in the motorcycling community, particularly attracting more female riders to explore their passion for two wheels. This accessibility is key to Royal Enfield's continued success and expansion in global markets, reinforcing their reputation as an inclusive, rider-focused brand.
Built on Trust, Crafted for Adventure
Officially unveiled this week, the Bear 650 promises an exhilarating blend of classic scrambler aesthetics with contemporary performance enhancements. Built on the proven 650 platform that houses the trusted 648cc parallel-twin engine, this bike is not just about raw power. It’s engineered to offer versatility, with a focus on improved low- and mid-range torque. The distinctive 2-into-1 exhaust system, paired with a lighter, single-silencer configuration, enhances its off-road capabilities and adds to its unique character.
The Bear 650 is crafted to handle diverse terrains, equipped with Showa upside-down front forks and twin rear shocks to balance comfort and off-road prowess. The higher ground clearance and specially designed MRF dual-purpose tires mean that this bike is trail-ready while maintaining a smooth ride on urban streets.

A Blend of Style and Substance
One of the standout features of the Bear 650 is its retro-inspired scrambler design, complete with USD front forks and stylish colorways that evoke the vibrant, laid-back culture of California. My personal favourite? The turquoise and green framed “249” version—an homage with a backstory as captivating as the bike itself. The number 249 pays tribute to Eddie Mulder, who, at just 16 years old, conquered the 1960 Big Bear Run desert race on a Royal Enfield carrying that very number. Meeting Eddie at the launch and hearing his story added a layer of authenticity and nostalgia to the entire experience.
Modern Conveniences for the Connected Rider
While the Bear 650 captures the spirit of adventure, it doesn’t skimp on modern conveniences. The bike is fitted with a full LED lighting setup and features a TFT display with integrated Tripper Navigation for seamless turn-by-turn directions, powered by Google Maps. A USB-C charging port adds to its rider-friendly functionality, making it perfect for long rides and weekend getaways.
The Joy of Partnership and Advocacy
As a rider who’s had the pleasure of owning and riding a variety of motorcycles, and someone who interacts with numerous brands, being an official Royal Enfield Ambassador is a true honor. Their commitment to fostering a sense of community, coupled with their openness to feedback and continual improvement, makes them a standout brand in the industry. The Bear 650 exemplifies these values perfectly: a machine born from a mix of rider input, historical reverence, and modern ingenuity.
Experience It for Yourself
The Bear 650 encapsulates everything Royal Enfield stands for—an adventurous spirit, a nod to heritage, and a modern approach to rider satisfaction. If you get the opportunity, I encourage you to take one for a test ride and experience the joy firsthand. This bike promises not just a ride, but an experience that’s deeply connected to the roots of motorcycling and tailored for today’s rider.
The Bear 650 launch has reminded me, once again, why being a part of the Royal Enfield family is something special. It’s more than just a brand; it’s a movement driven by passion, camaraderie, and the love of the open road.
Thanks again to Nathan Kolbe , Glen Corbett , Ross Clifford , Samuel Grief , Ben Hine , and everyone else from the Royal Enfield team - for a brand and product launch experience to be remembered.
