Unfortunately, the pre-screening databases employers use to pre-screen resumes aren't intended to make your job search easy ... they are intended to make hiring more efficient for employers.
When employers ask you to fill out a detailed application that essentially repeats your resume, that's because they care how efficient your repetitive work makes their hiring process, even when it's totally dysfunction from your point of view.
When employers don't post current needs in job descriptions (they almost never do), it's easier just to post the last person's job description, but that leaves you flying blind, applying based on outdated needs.
And when ATSs don't recognize common meanings or synonyms, that screen you out when you're qualified, it's because it's not efficient to read at every qualified resume. This causes you to lose opportunities every day, just because you've chosen slightly different words than search criteria.
