Is An ATS Blocking Your Resume? Or Is It Something Else?

Nearly 2/3 of all job seekers list getting past the ATS as their #1 problem.
And it's frustrating applying to jobs when you're qualified, only to get no response. It's feels like you're sending resumes into the wind.
But what it it's something else other than the ATS?
Here are 4 ways your resume is getting blocked, other than being blocked by the ATS:
- Rejction By HR Rep/Recruiter: During recessions, employers get many times more qualified resumes then available interview spots. Your resume could get through an ATS, but be rejected during manual screening. Reasons include unclear/general first impression, resume that appears average, resume showing risks of hiring you, resume doesn't quickly show you're a match, resume that fails to make you seem like a fit.
- Rejection By Hiring Manager: Hiring managers get far more pre-screened and qualified resumes than available interview spots, and may interview less than 20% of resumes sent by HR Reps/Recruiters. If your resume doesn't quickly show that you meet their needs, why should they interview you? If your resume portrays you as average, they can find better candidates.
- Non Compliant Resumes: If you're not getting interviews, it could be the way you've formatted your resume document. Many resume formats are not easily readable by Applicant Tracking Systems, and get rejected before they're even entered into the ATS. Interestingly, many certified professional resume writers, high volume "resume mills", and job board resume services use resume formats that often get rejected.
- Resume Document File Type: ATSs reject certain resume file formats, so they aren't entered into the ATS. In addition, if you aren't sending your resume in the default file format of the employer's specific Applicant Tracking System, it can cause delays and translation errors that get your resume rejected.
The good news is there are more effective ways to get your resume through and around Applicant Tracking Systems. Why not let me show you how to beat the ATS and get your resume seen more often? I want to show you how to get more callbacks, more employer emails, and more interviews, so you can find a great job fast during the recession.
This is the 3rd recession I've recruited/coached through, so I've seen first hand what resume and job search strategies succeed for job seekers during recessions. I've also seen mistakes candidates make, causing their recession job searches to fail. I've been through this before and know what works and what doesn't.
That's why numerous job seekers who work with me have already gotten job offers this March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October and November - every week since mid-March.
As a top national recruiter who reads hundreds of resumes per day, who has helped hundreds of thousands of candidates in their job search, and seen thousands of employers' job search processes from the inside, I've got a different perspective than most career coaches.
I see that most job seekers do essentially the same things, even when they think they are job searching differently. I also see most job seekers were taught search methods that eliminate them from consideration, because they conflict with the employer's hiring process.
But I've been teaching job seekers to find a great job fast for 13+ years by using non-traditional resume/job search strategies that demonstrate impact rather than just being average. I'll show you how to find your next job by year end during the recession by understanding employers' point of view and hiring processes ... and using this understanding to beat your competition.
(I'm not just a career coach. I've also been a top national recruiter for the last 16+ years ... so you'll get advice from a different perspective - an insider's point of view.)
Let me show you what you can do now to change your job search and resume so you can find your next job by year end, even if you're between jobs, over 40, trying to change careers or location, if your industry is in decline/consolidation, trying to overcome long term career gaps, family leave, find a remote job, turnaround your job search or other tough to solve job search problems.

3 年I got a better idea - block all Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) - let's make HR do their job and read people's work.

4 年Clearly ATS scanners are only as good as their inputs. And... It's better to go to a human - recruiter or insider - to put your paper in the right place. Having recently paid to have an expert update my resume, I can testify that it was well worth the investment. It's worth getting help to ensure your resume looks good for both humans and ATS readers.
