The ATRIUM - Vision to Reality
Inaugurated in April 2014, The ATRIUM is mainly composed of engineered wood columns “in a cathedral arch shape”, interconnected by steel beams, and covered with a high performance glass curtain wall system.
The idea was to merge two existing buildings, by converting an unoccupied and ineffective piece of land into a useful space, where people could gather, interact and collaborate.
Many technical challenges were encountered along the project duration. Among all we highlight the importance of designing an independent structure, allowing acceptable lateral move, without transferring any load into the adjacent buildings, nor compromising the overall envelope air and water tightness. Additional snow accumulation was expected over the adjacent lower roofs, which measurements were taken to deal with the subject.
Its open space and natural light creates an amazing ambiance, inviting people to interact and collaborate.
It has definitely generated immeasurable benefits in the work environment, by increasing employees, well-being, motivation, appreciation and consequent productivity.
The ATRIUM is definitely another example of a successful capital expenditure, which besides the above mentioned benefits, it has brought value to the entire property.
During these 3 years of existence, the Atrium was nominated in architectural and interior design competitions, and received the following awards.
