Sustainability begins at home !

Atomic Satyagraha for a greener living!

"We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children."

Encouraging carpooling or using public transportation to reduce carbon emissions from commuting are among the tiny units of behavior that can be broken down into smaller, more manageable components aka "Atomic Habits".

By focusing on small, manageable changes, we can create positive habits that can be sustained over time and lead to significant improvements in our lives. This article, is an attempt to explore some sustainable ways to work that we can adopt in our day to day lives.

Here are five atomic habits around us that promote sustainability:

  • Make it Digital: Implementing a paperless policy and utilizing digital documents instead of printing.

"The shift to digital is a cultural revolution too."

  • Re. use: Single-use plastics are a significant contributor to environmental pollution. By using reusable water bottles, cups and bags, we can significantly reduce the amount of plastic waste that we generate.

"The most sustainable item is the one that already exists."

  • Detoxify your appliances: Turning off lights and electronics when not in use is an easy way to conserve energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. By making this a habit, we can significantly reduce our carbon footprint and save money on our energy bills.

"The energy saved today can light up someone's world tomorrow."

  • Subscribe to green: Eating locally and seasonally is not only healthier, but it is also more sustainable. By eating foods that are in season and grown locally, we reduce the carbon footprint associated with transporting food from far away, which can also help support local farmers.

"It's not a sacrifice but a gift to yourself and to the planet."

  • Share saplings: Planting trees and plants is an excellent way to promote sustainability, as they absorb carbon dioxide and other pollutants from the air and provide oxygen. Even a single plant can make a significant difference in improving air quality and reducing the carbon footprint.

"Gifting a plant is a breathing reminder of our connection to nature."

Atomic habits can be a game-changer, they help us to break down larger goals, create consistency in behavior, and create a positive feedback loop. By making small, incremental changes in our daily lives, we can promote sustainability, we can all do our part preserve the environment and contribute to a healthier planet.

Yours Satyagrahi ;)
