You should write about what you observe.

Rick Roberge thought sharing what I observed during our client coaching sessions would benefit all of us, so here we are.

This week, one of our clients was dealing with a shift: he started noticing what needs to change in his environment...the fantastic result of a transformation in three phases.

Rick, can I ask you a question?

The first phase comes with questions. Anyone can ask what they should do or how to deal with a situation: negotiating, reaching a decision maker, managing effective strategy, writing an email...

Fix one thing daily with three to five weekly sessions, and adjust 12 to 20 things monthly.

Rick, am I doing right?

But changing the way you walk requires efforts and is demanding.

The second phase comes with resistance.

Suddenly, clients ask the same question two, three, or four times in a row or return to "fixed" things like they used to do before coaching.

The brain is tired.

Rick, can we change the blobbiness in my life?

Ahhh...don't worry about that.

The client realizes the blobbiness in his life and starts asking greater questions:

• What about...?
• What if...?
• How can...?

When a skill evolves, you only notice what happens once it's omnipresent and changes how you see, talk, and act: easier, faster, smoother.

8, 10, 12 weeks in, something clicks.

So, remember, learning sometimes requires unlearning what you think you know and operating a come back à la Tiger Wood. But, in most cases, it's the result of having a great coach ready to do what's necessary, not nice, to his clients, so the client becomes ready...for life.
