AtlasVPN, a very young service launched in 2020 with a focus on mobile, aims to make a name for itself in the segment of free VPNs. The brand is owned and operated by Peakstar Technologies Inc., based in Delaware, USA. We'll examine later in this review why this may not necessarily be an ideal location.
Though AtlasVPN promotes its free service, limited to a maximum of 2 GB per month, its paid offer is affordable and allows unlimited connections from a single account. This is an ideal selling point for those looking to protect all their devices.
Handling and Interface of AtlasVPN
Despite the absence of a world map to select server locations, AtlasVPN provides an interface similar to the likes of NordVPN. The overall presentation is clean and non-invasive. Once logged in, you're immediately brought to the homepage, complete with a list of countries and a connection button. We've noted that AtlasVPN connects to its servers with impressive speed. The left sidebar grants access to a support tab and options.
In the first tab, you have an ad tracker and even more interesting, an in-house platform for detecting security breaches via email. This uses the most common databases to detect if your address has been leaked but does not allow you to address this directly.
The options tab is more comprehensive, offering access to a minimum of additional standard features like the Kill Switch and auto-connect. That's it! The mobile version only adds split tunneling and isn't necessarily more abundant. There is no dedicated IP mode, for example, which is a basic option in many other VPNs.
There is a list of servers in the "Privacy Pro" tab, only accessible with a paid subscription. These servers are located in optimal locations to ensure top performance while randomly switching between different gateways. This is an extra assurance to enhance your online security and anonymity.

However, the service is rather minimal, which might be justified for a free version but appears somewhat scanty when compared to the competition. Another downside is that AtlasVPN's interface is solely and entirely in English.
Servers and Performance of AtlasVPN
In terms of server utilization, AtlasVPN isn't necessarily the service with the most impressive figures. With just over 700 active servers worldwide, spread across 43 different countries, it covers a good portion of the global territory, and some cities have multiple locations. It also performs remarkably well.
Atlas VPN offers the IKEv2 and Wireguard protocols. The latter is much more recommended, being newer and much better optimized for common usage. Be sure to enable it by default in the options. Regardless of the protocol used, we did not notice any DNS leak issues.
For streaming, we had no problem viewing geoblocked content. AtlasVPN is quite proficient at bypassing Netflix's international geoblocking, and it handles other SVoD platforms very well. Atlas VPN has a specific list of servers (mainly US-based) optimized for such use.
AtlasVPN Privacy Policy
Atlas VPN's headquarters is based in the US, more precisely in Delaware, likely for tax reasons. However, the company's commitment to its "no-log" policy can legitimately be questioned. The US is a prominent member of the 5 Eyes (now 14 Eyes), an infamous alliance of countries actively involved in widespread and mass web surveillance. This raises a question: Does Atlas VPN actually retain and share my connection information when I use it? And even though the US doesn't have mandatory data retention laws, we unfortunately have no real guarantees nor the answer to this question. The mere act of posing this question is already a problem.
In most cases, users don't care about this aspect. Still, it is crucial that a service sold as a secure VPN is not obliged to share user information, even if it's for security purposes.
The data that could be disclosed ranges from the sites visited to the devices used and the connection times. As it stands, it is impossible to verify any of this as there is no mention of this point in the dedicated page on the site.
AtlasVPN Customer Service
While AtlasVPN has made efforts to improve the presentation of its applications, it would have been nice if it had done the same for better integration of its support. Whether on desktop or mobile platforms, only a simple option leading to the help center is available. This is quite bare-bones, considering that some VPNs include everything necessary directly in the application, up to online chat.
As for the help center itself, it's just a basic FAQ answering fundamental questions about the VPN's operation, all available only in English. The contact form isn't accessible from the main page but from the articles. However, the support responses are quick, albeit also in English.
AtlasVPN Pricing
AtlasVPN is part of the very small circle of very cheap VPNs, especially if you opt for the most advantageous prices, often reserved for users wanting a long-term commitment. However, keep in mind that it also sells itself as a free VPN.
It offers three packages ranging from one month to two years with very decent prices that rarely exceed $2 per month for a 2-year subscription.
Note that for this price, AtlasVPN does not offer additional services like a password manager or an anti-malware. It focuses 100% on its VPN activities, which can impact people looking for a comprehensive security solution.
