I am curious now. Has the minimum qualification level for all apprenticeships been stopped? I have been aware for a number of years that some students can take on certain apprenticeships with a minimum of Grade 3 at GCSE which is a level 1 Functional Skills qualification in English, maths and IT equivalent, or they could have the minimum level 1 Functional Skills qualifications in English, maths and IT. This meant that employers and other training providers, were then responsible for ensuring that their apprentices continued their studies with GCSE or Functional Skills, in English, maths or It, until they reached the required grade, a grade 4 at GCSE or a Level 2 Functional Skills pass, in English, maths and IT. Entry level 3 Functional Skills is a grade two equivalent at GCSE in English, maths and IT. Also at one time Grade 4 GCSE or Level 2 Functional Skills was the expected normal grades, that were acceptable for other types of apprenticeship such as Plumbing/Gas Engineer, Electrician, Joiner to name a few. So, if there has been a change, why has this happened?
