Atlas Concorde wins four red dot design 2022 awards

Four Atlas Concorde projects won the prestigious 2022 Red Dot award in the Product Design category: Boost Natural, Aplomb, 3D Wall Carve and the Dialogo designer washbasin project. The criteria applied by an international jury of 48 members, which examined over 20,000 applications from 60 countries, were based on the "research of design and innovation." Two words that have always applied to Atlas Concorde.

A Red Dot for Design

Born mainly in the 1950s, the mission of international design awards remains the same today as back then: to select products that stand out for their quality and innovation. This is true for the?Compasso d'Oro, the?Good Design Award, and the?Red Dot Design Award?that was created by Peter Zec in 1955 to identify the best product design of the year. Today it is awarded in three different categories: Product Design, Communication Design, and Design Concept.

The winning products/prototypes are showcased in an international exhibition at the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen and Singapore. Thanks to the?Red Dot Design?app, the award-winning products can be seen worldwide complete with image galleries, descriptions, and links, along with maps identifying more than 25,000 "design locations” including design studios, museums, trade shows, and showrooms.

An international, timeless formula

Designers, design studios, and manufacturers from about 60 countries around the world have registered their products for the Red Dot Award to be evaluated by as many as 48 members of a jury that has become increasingly international over the years.

In fact, for almost 70 years the Red Dot Design Award has been scouting products that blend a good design idea, innovation, and production processes.

As confirmed by?Peter Zec,?Red Dot founder and CEO, speaking of this year's edition: “I was particularly struck by the pronounced creativity evidenced by the award-winning products. That there are still designs that surprise in form and functionality is truly impressive and commendable.... The fact that the quality of these products equals their level of innovation makes them well-deserved winners in the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2022.”

In keeping with this spirit,?the four products presented by Atlas Concorde?perfectly combine these concepts through collaborations with internationally renowned Italian designers.

Two new patterns designed by Piero Lissoni

3D Wall Carve?is inspired by the natural character of engraved, hand-worked stone, with a dynamic surface featuring three-dimensional reliefs. The specific recipients of the Red Dot were the two patterns designed by Piero Lissoni: 3D Sign and 3D Squares. The esthetic of this collection is evident in the extreme?precision?of the micro-reliefs that mark the surface, highlighted by?the soft-touch finish.

Two looks where the designer investigated the relationship between technique and art.?As he himself noted, “The three-dimensional texture brings out the minimalist graphics as well as lights and shadows, while the often irregular design conveys an artisanal allure even through it was created using a sophisticated hyper-industrial process." For Sign, Piero Lissoni chose the theme of abstract painting, with an irregular surface that creates an interplay of light and shadows. Squares is a free interpretation of an artisanal micromosaic, with small irregular squares that create movement and character.

The reasoning of the jury of the Red Dot Design Award: “With its natural allure, this ceramic tile collection integrates seamlessly into contemporary living environments.

The art of raw earth by Matteo Brioni

Born from the partnership between Atlas Concorde and the architect-entrepreneur based in Mantua, the?Boost Natural?collection transports the visual and tactile suggestions of raw earth surfaces to the world of ceramic tiles.?An homage to Italian craftsmanship, this collection combines the technical performance of porcelain tiles with the effect of clay in a palette that echoes the colors of selected soils sourced from Italian quarries.

This was the objective that guided the research of the Atlas Concorde R&D lab and Matteo Brioni.

The reasoning of the jury of the Red Dot Design Award:?“This ceramic tile collection inspires with an appearance that communicates craftsmanship and originality.”

From the style department of Atlas Concorde comes Aplomb

The inspiration for the collection is drawn from wallpaper reinterpreted in ceramic form for a completely original look. A?delicate three-dimensional surface?reveals iridescent accents when struck by light. The two textures – Minidots and Stripes – exploit the apparent contrast between the?brilliant three-dimensionality?of the material and the simplicity of the?graphic design?consisting of microdots, which reveal unexpected variations only when seen close up, and subtle lines with delicate chiaroscuro shading.?Textures available in an extended range of?soft, dusty colors, as dictated by contemporary interior design.

The reasoning of the jury of the Red Dot Design Award:?“The Aplomb?ceramic tiles unite a modern look and a flattering feel to create a product solution that appeals to the senses.”

Dialogo washbasin by Mario Ferrarini

This is the name of the first line of?designer porcelain sinks?designed by Mario Ferrarini for Atlas Concorde, and it has already won an international award: the Red Dot Design 2022. The designer worked on a clean, parallel lines with an?extremely calibrated design?that carefully assesses thicknesses and cross-sections and offers sinks of dimensions that meet the needs of interior design.

A bathroom furnishing project that was conceived to offer designers?solutions that are integrated with and complementary?to the surfaces and tiles of Atlas Concorde's collections.

Ferrarini recounts the development process as follows: “We didn't start from a targeted analysis, but rather from a blank sheet of paper. We started with just two lines, our outer limits, the limits of our collection. Moving within these parallel tracks, we positioned full and empty spaces to generate boundaries and depth. Washbasins and furnishings are therefore the result of an interval between the various volumes in the third dimension."

The storage units have elementary geometries, a characteristic feature of Ferrarini's esthetic research – always minimalist – and are designed to create order in space. The matte lacquered structure supports a porcelain top, the same as the basin, guaranteeing?solidity,?durability, and resistance?to water and oily products.

Dialogo features washbasins that can be combined with the suspended storage cabinet with a porcelain top coordinated with the sink.

The reasoning of the jury of the Red Dot Design Award:?“This washbasin convinces with its clear lines as well as with its innovative design language and thus achieves an exciting union of opposites.”
