Atlantykron: A Journey of Personal Discovery and Connection

One might be tempted to address Atlantykron as another event on the map; in reality, it's an experience that transcends the boundaries of conventional gatherings: nestled on the banks of the Danube, this unique summer camp brings together individuals from diverse backgrounds to explore, learn, and connect in an immersive environment.

As a former attendee and member of the journalism volunteering team, my journey with Atlantykron has been transformative, shaping not only my professional path but also my personal life in unexpected ways.

The beginnings

Atlantykron, established in 1989, now celebrates its 35th edition as the pioneering interdisciplinary summer academy, serving as both a learning vehicle and a witness to the remarkable progress of technology.

I term it 'interdisciplinary exploration', since it's blending fields in a harmonious mixture that enriches the minds of its attendees.

And allow me to explain from where I met it, during the EuroCon 2001 onwards, and it is clear enough that this camp has woven together immersive experiences with collaborative efforts alongside organizations like NASA, fostering an environment where diverse disciplines intersect.

Using an interdisciplinary approach, Atlantykron fosters connections between physics, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and beyond, inviting attendees to explore the intersections of knowledge and innovation.

Moreover, by serving as a gathering point for science fiction writers, Atlantykron provides a platform for narratives that transcend traditional boundaries, offering a rich tapestry of ideas that inspire attendees to contemplate the ethical, social, and technological implications of a rapidly changing world.

One of the standout features of Atlantykron is its emphasis on psychographs, a tool used to analyze and understand individual personalities. Through psychographs, participants are self-placed into the right team, and gain insights into their strengths, weaknesses, and behavioral patterns, fostering self-awareness and personal growth. This introspective approach creates a supportive atmosphere where people can explore their inner selves, fostering deeper connections with others and nurturing a sense of community.

Once upon the time, it was about the Kalvar Project

In 2001, amidst the workshops and discussions, during my time at Atlantykron, as a member of the journalism volunteering team, I found myself immersed in the creation of Kalvar, a project born from passion and inspiration that would become a significant milestone in my journey.

This endeavor allowed me to channel creativity and passion for storytelling, creating a platform that resonated with the spirit of Atlantykron and its community.

Kalvar was not just a project; it was a creative adventure that allowed me to play characters, breathe life into moments, and weave stories without uttering a word. Through muted pictures, complemented by witty written jokes, Kalvar aimed to encapsulate the spirit, humor, and vibrancy of Atlantykron.

I embraced the challenge of translating the camp's energy and essence into visual tales. Each character I portrayed was a reflection of the camp's diverse personalities, stories, and emotions, creating a mosaic of moments that resonated with attendees and captured the heart and soul of Atlantykron.

It was a labor of love, a reflection of the spirit of Atlantykron, and a statement about the power of collaboration and creativity. With each keystroke and idea shared, I felt a profound connection to the community around me, a shared heartbeat echoing through the camp.

The camp's focus on psychographs opened a window to self-discovery, revealing facets of my personality I had yet to explore. Amidst this journey of introspection, I found myself embracing authenticity, letting go of pretenses, and discovering the beauty of being true to oneself.

As Atlantykron continues to evolve, it remains a beacon of innovation, imagination, and collaboration, shaping the minds of future leaders and visionaries alike.

But Atlantykron had more surprises in store for me

In 2001, my journey with this enchanting realm began with a playful jest to a friend: "What if I meet my prince charming on the island?" Little did I know that this bizarre thought would intertwine with my Atlantykron story in the most unexpected of ways.

This chapter was yet to come. It was here, amidst the laughter and late-night conversations, that I met my future husband. Our connection was instant, but for many other couples Atlantykron became a place where love blossomed and dreams intertwined.

Two decades have passed since that fateful summer, and our journey together has been nothing short of extraordinary. While my husband delved into the world of IT architecture, I found my calling in software analysis and product management. Our diverse professional backgrounds complemented each other, fostering a collaborative and supportive partnership.

What I find interesting to share, is that our initial chat / email interactions were on MIRC and Hotmail. These early digital exchanges were our playground, a space where we explored, connected, and laid the foundation for our enduring bond. Like many of you do now on Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, or other social media platforms.

Fast forward two decades, and the digital landscape has undergone significant transformation. With advancements in technology, the realm of cybersecurity has become more complex, with social engineering techniques evolving to become increasingly sophisticated and deceptive. In any case, my early experiences with my future husband serve as a poignant reminder of the importance of vigilance, awareness, and education in navigating the digital landscape safely and securely.

From Atlantykron to Women4Cyber Romania

Today, I proudly introduce myself as a founder of Women4Cyber Romania, an organization dedicated to promoting diversity in the cybersecurity industry. And I do that through my latest programme that I manage - Youth Ambassadors. But I know that it was my journey with Atlantykron that played a pivotal role in shaping my path, instilling in me the values of community, collaboration, and empowerment.

The lessons I learned at Atlantykron continue to resonate with me, fueling my desire to make a difference and reminding me of the importance of self-discovery, personal growth, and connection with diversity and inclusion. Each experience I had on Atlantykron contributed to a transformative experience that has left an indelible mark on my life.
