Atlantis solved?

Was Plato right? The great philosopher Plato, often considered one of the greatest minds in human history, was laughed at by his contemporaries toward the end of his life. His disappointment was so great that he decided not to complete the second of his three planned stories on Atlantis. Why did the Greeks, a people accustomed to hearing and believing all kinds of stories, mock the great Plato?

In his dialogue ‘Timaeus’ and in the partial dialogue "Crizia, which remained unfinished, Plate relates that some mysterious Egyptian priests from the city of Sais, told the famous Athenian statesman Solon (638 BC - 558 BC) a story. Plato (428 BC - 348 BC), received this story some 200 years later passed down through his Mother's family who were direct relatives of Solon. Plato then used this history as one of his sources from which he derived his tale.?

In his account Plato tells of the existence of a ‘Great island’ near ‘The Pillars of Hercules’. He calls it “Atlantis” or “Land of Atlas”. The Greeks of his time knew that more than 40 years before Plato, the great historian Herodotus (484 BC - 430 BC) called the mountain range of present day Morocco, ‘Atlas’ in his 'Histories'. Those mountains still bear that name today. For a Greek of that time, the name ‘Atlantis' or ’Land of Atlas' indicated a land that was at the foot of Mount Atlas. But everyone knew that there was no “Great Island” at the foot of Atlas. In his account, Plato, quoting the “mysterious Egyptian priests”, claimed that this island existed 9000 years before Solon, now 11,600 years ago. This was the point that laughter broke out amongst his many detractors. Many have doubted that authenticity of the ‘Atlantis’ story ever since. Since no island has ever been found, speculation has placed Atlantis all over the world. Sardinia, near Cuba, Bimini, Ireland, off Indonesia etc.?

What if the ‘Land of Atlas’ has always been exactly where Plato told us it was? Enter modern technology and a small Japanese satellite called PALSAR. An article in the journal “Nature”, dated 10th of November, 2015 titled “African Humid Periods Triggered The Reactivation Of A Large River System in the Western Sahara”, talks about a larger river system in the Western Sahara drawing it's sources from the Hoggar Plateaus and the Southern Atlas Mountains in Algeria. This named Tamanrasset river valley has been described as a possible vast and ancient river system. The PALSAR satellite discovered a gigantic mega river, now dried up, that started in the Atlas Mountains and cut across the entire north-west corner of Africa, flowing into today's Mauritania. The ‘river valley’ of the Tamanrasset is about 90 km wide. The mouth of this mega river, now located under the sea was 400 km wide. This is a distance greater than the Strait of Messina and the Strait of Gibraltar combined. When this mega river Tamanrasset was flowing during the last African humid period (between about 14,500 and 7000 years ago) the “Land of Atlas” or “Atlantis” really was an island. To the north it was surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea. To the west it was surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. To the south it was surrounded by the mega river Tamanrasset. To the east it was almost completely surrounded by the same river, except for a small piece formed by the Atlas Mountain range. Can this land really be called an “island”? In the Greek sense, the answer is Yes.

Most have heard of the Peloponnese, a fairly famous area in Greece. The Peloponnese has exactly the same geographical conformation as the ‘’island of Atlas'. It is an ‘almost island’ attached to the mainland by a small ‘isthmus’. What does the word Peloponnese mean? This word comes from the Greek Pelopos Nesos, meaning the ‘Island of Pelops’. This is evidence that for the Greeks of ancient times, a quasi island like the Peloponnese, could be considered and Island.

Now lets look at “the proof of circles". In his account Plato says that in the vicinity of the Isle of Atlantis, there were two unique structures. According to the story, one of these natural geological structures had been created directly by Poseidon. It was a central mound around which there were three rings of sea and two rings of land, perfectly concentric. Nothing is said about it's size. It was said that it was 'sacred', inaccessible and uninhabited. The second structure named “Metropolis Island”, closely resembled the previous one but in this case measurements were given. There was a central flat island about 900 meters wide, followed by three rings of sea and two rings of land, perfectly concentric. The total width was about five kilometers. Around this natural geologic structure stretched thee City of Atlantis.?

What are the chances of finding near the ancient Tamanrasset river, not one but two natural geologic structures formed by concentric rings, one of which must be five kilometers wide, and have kind of a central island 900 meters wide? Using satellite technology, these two geologic structures have been found along the path of the ancient Tamanrasset river. The ‘Metropolis Structure’ is called the Semsiyat Dome. It is located on the plateau of Chinguetti in the Mauritanian desert. It's measurements are incredibly close to those given by Plato. It's maximum width is exactly five kilometers. In it's center id a formation from 900 to 100 meters wide. One can also glimpse a second inner circle exactly as described by Plato. The other structure is called the Richat Structure and it is about 20 kilometers away. It is about 40 kilometers wide and consists of a central area from which a series of rock circles depart. There are clear remnants indicating that this was once a lake from which ‘’rings of earth' emerged. It is a perfect representation of the island of Poseidon described by Plato.?

Today, satellites have scanned the entire earth and to date, there are no other natural structures on earth that have those measurements or characteristics. They are unique. Based on the combined evidence, provided in part by modern technology, is it fair to state that the ‘island’ described by Plato, has indeed been identified??

It appears that “the mysterious Egyptian priests” did not lie to Solon, and consequently Plato, when they told Solon that there was a Great Island at the foot of the Atlas Mountains some 11,600 years ago. The questions are, did this area ever sink, where did the surviving inhabitants go and how did the Egyptian priests 9000 years later, know this??
