Atlantic City Man Sentenced to 16 Years State Prison for Possession of Handgun by Convicted Person

MAYS LANDING, NJ – On Thursday, November 16, 2023, Sean Lowney, 32, of Atlantic City, NJ, was sentenced by the Honorable Dorothy Garrabrant, J.S.C., to 16 years in New Jersey State Prison with a parole ineligibility of eight years for second-degree certain persons not to possess firearms concurrent to five years New Jersey State Prison with a parole ineligibility of three and a half years for second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun.? Due to Lowney’s extensive and repetitive criminal history he was eligible to be sentenced to an extended term under the persistent offender’s statute. ?Lowney was sentenced in accordance with that statute.

On August 11, 2023, Lowney was convicted by an Atlantic County Jury stemming from Lowney wielding a revolver at his ex-paramour’s residence on May 17, 2021 in Atlantic City.

Assistant Atlantic County Prosecutor Marlaina Mutchko represented the State.? The case was investigated by the Atlantic City Police Department.
