Athletes Are Human, Too

In sports, there seems to be a double standard when it comes to professional athletes voicing their opinion. If they fail to speak up on an issue, they are often criticized, but when they do choose to speak out, they are still faced with criticism from the other side. A perfect example of this was the now-infamous LeBron James “shut up and dribble” controversy last year. LeBron spoke out against the current President of the United States in an interview, and Fox News’ Laura Ingraham said he should keep his comments to himself. Many people expect athletes to not voice their opinions and “do their job”, but clearly do not hold themselves to that same standard.
