Athena fund promotes the empowerment of teachers in Israel by providing them with tools for self-fulfillment and professional advancement. Named after the Goddess of Wisdom in Greek mythology, Athena was founded by several prominent business leaders under the direction of President Uri Ben-Ari (CEO of UBA Ventures and former Executive VP of Ness Technologies).
A non-profit organization established in 2006, Athena Fund is supported by donors from the philanthropic third sector in Israel and abroad, as well as by donors from the Israeli business sector.
Athena Fund has made great strides providing laptops, tablets and iPads, along with professional training, to some 23,000 school and kindergarten teachers in 1909 schools and kindergarten in 148 local authorities across Israel. Athena continues to work on fully achieving it’s a goal of reaching every Israeli teacher by the year 2020.
Athena Fund has been recognized globally for its success, including receiving a Special Consultative Status from the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) ,and receiving membership to the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE).
Based on its familiarity with Athena Fund, UNESCO has recommended implementing its programs in other countries.
We found amazing stories of children with special needs who never communicated with their families and now with the direction of their teachers they are able to communicate (after 19 years) with the mother and tell her “I love you, I am cold, I fear...”
