Rachel Dexheimer, MA, PCC – How Effective is Your Training: What Participants Can’t (or Won’t) Tell You

How do you get objective feedback on the value and effectiveness of your training? Ask someone who can’t lie and who has no personal agenda. Don’t know anyone like that? That’s because we keep asking people to assess how people are training them. The answer is they don’t really know or they don’t really want to say. But when you ask a horse about how effective human training techniques are… well, you get a very clear and compelling perspective. Horses have been the subjects of our training techniques for centuries. As such, they have quite a bit to offer around the long term impacts on morale, engagement, health and wellness, productivity, culture, and change. And, you’ll be surprised at the answers.
Join me to explore the top 5 mistakes we (people) make that undermine the effectiveness of our programs. Most importantly, we’ll explore about how to correct those mistakes to create programs that go beyond traditional ROI into the realms of personal and organizational "thrival.

Sheila Delaney Duke, JD and Andrew Cline – Clean Burning Fuel for the Journey: The Power of ‘Want’

There is great power in wanting. This inquiry burns more cleanly than anything fueled by ‘should,’ ‘have to,’ or ‘it’s time.’ How do we leverage this cleaner burning energy for the Journey? How do you stimulate the right conversations to ensure you are supporting all stakeholders in clarifying what it is they really want from the process so you all have a better change of hitting the mark and setting off on the journey in the right direction? (And yes, having outcomes that actually achieve what was hoped for.) How connected are you to your own wants and desires, so you can model the way? Join us for hands-on and engaging activities that will help you help stakeholders discover and align to what they want, and make a strong business case for learning.

Participants will get to identify key Drivers of Engagement, and explore answers to the questions:  Where am I on the Engagement model? Where is my team? What can I do as a learning leader to increase engagement?

Zach Anderson and Ece Anderson – Where are our organizations going?

The economy is fundamentally changing, and the context of products and services is starting to matter as much as their functional and emotional benefits. Providing contextual value often requires a different approach to management and training. Networks are replacing hierarchy as the optimal organizational structure, reflecting the move from a mechanical world view to a contextual world view. Principles of wholeness, evolutionary purpose, and self-management are critical to this emerging paradigm. Review and critique examples/case studies of companies that are adopting these principles and the results they are achieving. Through experiential activities, participants will practice wholeness and discover how it relates to a new paradigm of making a business case for learning.

Brian Washburn - How One Key Question Helps More People to See: Is It Worth It?

This session will present a case study on how SightLife uses data to drive and evaluate learning & development. By the end of this training segment, the participants will be able to identify good/poor examples of how to use various metrics; construct an evaluation plan to build a case for future learning opportunities; explain how specific data drives learning programs; explain how certain data can be distracting or superfluous; and identify transferable lessons to build into their own work.

Lisa Ann Edwards, MS and Nicole DavenportUtilizing the ROI Methodology?

 Do you wish it were easier to gain budget for your learning & development programs? Would you like to ensure that you keep or grow your existing budget? Would you like to establish yourself as expert in your work? If any of this is true for you, then you won’t want to miss this session. Utilizing the ROI Methodology?, you will learn how to measure the monetary impact of your learning & development programs. No longer will you only be able to measure satisfaction, but you will also be able to credibly measure real, tangible monetary impact and ROI of your work. Imagine the impact you will have with your internal or external clients when you can show them how many dollars they got back for every dollar they invested in their work with you! You’ll be better able to gain budget, retain or grow budgets, use the data to establish yourself as an expert and also learn how to improve the effectiveness of your programs.

 In this session, you will learn:

  • The five ways to measure success;
  • How to contract your learning and development programs for monetary business impact;
