Ataraxy Friday: Where's your attention

What’s capturing your focus?

Plummeting consumer confidence, rising inflation and interest rates, or the fact that we’ve got the lowest unemployment rates in Australian history??The media landscape is devoted to fear and outrage.

It's funny how our brains process and filter information. One central heuristic is that it is easier for the brain to find evidence of what we already think, believe, want, or fear.

And not attend to evidence to the contrary.

This is the media landscape we are in.

This is further amped by our underlying emotional states, the ‘more it matters’ the more we want to hold onto our perspectives and confirm our beliefs..

Under high pressure we tend to focus on the negative, and how it is going wrong. Which only reinforces itself. A downward spiral with a feeling of fewer and fewer options.

Changing your experience starts by changing what you give your attention to.?

Pay attention to solutions, positive actions, and focus on what you want to build. Not what you want to avoid.

This can be difficult from inside your own echo chamber.??

If you’d like an outside perspective, let me know. I’m happy to give you 15-20 minutes and a different perspective.?

Cheers,

Nigel
