ATA pays gratitude to U.S. Transportation Secretary, Buttigieg!

The efforts of U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg are admired by the American Trucking Associations in a letter for its commitment to expanding the nation’s truck parking capacity.

American Trucking Associations President and CEO Chris Spear, in the letter, extended his gratitude to the government, legislature, and the administration for their committed efforts to expand the truck parking capacity in the country. The letter emphasized how the safe parking available to truck drivers in America through TAP (Trucking Action Plan), is important to implement using grant funding under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

“We thank Secretary Buttigieg and the administration for their ongoing commitment to America’s professional truck drivers," said Spear. "The Secretary has stated how important the issue of truck parking is to him and his department, and we are extremely grateful that he is delivering on that intention."

Spear recently wrote to Buttigieg urging the Department of Transportation to prioritize this issue, which affects highway safety, driver wellbeing, productivity, and the environment.

A USDOT report found 98% of drivers regularly experience problems finding safe parking.?

Studies by the American Transportation Research Institute have found that drivers spend an average of 56 minutes of drive time per day to find parking, directly costing them about $5,500 in lost compensation — or a 12% cut in annual pay.

“This issue is of particular importance for women drivers, who repeatedly cite the lack of safe parking options as a deterrent to more women entering the field,” Spear said. “Investing in these projects and ensuring all drivers have ready access to safe and well-lit parking facilities is an important step in shifting our industry’s workforce demographics and empowering more women across the country to pursue the rewarding career opportunities that trucking has to offer.”

Semiyard has a totally different view on the truck parking shortage. We believe that there is no truck parking shortage in the United States. The shortage is referred to something that is not even available. Technically, the truck parking is not short but we are not just using the all effectively and efficiently to fight the truck parking problem. We just need to develop systems, policies, and rules to utilize the "excess truck parking spaces" available throughout the country. Semiyard has the perfect solution. We have developed the systems and we have the technology to connect the truck drivers or the transportation companies with truck parking yards, and other available truck parking zones in your surrounding.

If we just look at the stats above, the trucking industry and truckers are paying a huge annual cost of not having the safe parking spot, that we already have and are not utilizing properly.
