The 'Asynchronous Real Time' Cycle: Integrating Human and Artificial Intelligences
The Service Design Hub on Tmpt.me distinguishes itself from conventional AI platforms by prioritizing human expertise. This innovative platform implements an "Asynchronous Real-Time" (ART) cycle, combining generative AI with human oversight to deliver accurate and comprehensive responses while maintaining the scalability of an AI platform.
The ART cycle, which is an implementation of AI-Mediated Communication (AI-MC) based on Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), consists of two phases: an initial asynchronous AI response followed by real-time expert intervention when necessary (see Figures 1 and 2). The process begins when a user submits a question to an AI assistant trained in an expert's knowledge base. The AI generates an initial response, which the user can then rate and, if needed, flag for expert review within the platform's interface.
Through a dedicated control panel, the expert monitors both the AI responses and user feedback, ensuring continuous learning and improvement of the AI's accuracy. When necessary, the expert can revise responses, add supplementary information, or guide the AI to generate new, more accurate answers. Ultimately, the expert remains accountable for the quality of information delivered to the user. Once the expert approves a response, it is delivered to the user and incorporated into the knowledge base, creating a feedback loop that continuously improves the system's accuracy and comprehensiveness.
As illustrated, the ART cycle's main steps are:
The synergy within the ART cycle results in a continuous enhancement of the AI's knowledge base and its overall effectiveness. This innovative approach has sparked a growing interest in ART solutions across various sectors. Let's explore the details of this rising trend.?
Growing Interest in ART Solutions
Currently in beta testing, the Service Design Hub on Tmpt.me has attracted over 200 members, demonstrating?a growing demand for ART solutions in the service design sector.? Tmpt.me hosts a multitude of knowledge hubs and facilitates asynchronous real-time access to industry professionals, addressing a critical market need for on-demand expert consultation. Unlike chatbots or AI systems that simulate human interaction, Tmpt.me connects users directly with qualified experts in their field with the scalability of an AI platform.
For service design professionals, this means unprecedented access to specialized knowledge and guidance. The platform enables 24/7 availability of expert insights, effectively eliminating the need for traditional, appointment-based consultations. The Service Design Hub within Tmpt.me fosters knowledge exchange and professional development among experienced practitioners and newcomers, contributing to service design practices' evolution.
Implications for the Industry
The rapid growth of the Service Design Hub on Tmpt.me reflects two significant trends in the technology sector: the movement toward solutions that augment, rather than replace, human expertise, and the adoption of innovative AI-human collaboration models like the Asynchronous Real Time (ART) cycle.
