Astrology for Buildings ~ No 3 The Lloyd’s Building
I wanted to analyse something a bit different for this, the third in the Astrology for Buildings series.?Peterborough Cathedral (where Mary Queen of Scots was first buried) and Stonehenge (about which I know several gruesome facts) were considered.?Unfortunately, both were non-starters because neither have recorded opening dates.?So, it’s another modern building:
This time, it’s Astrology for the Lloyd’s Building. This is the “inside out building”.?The building which precociously became a Grade I listed building in 2011, just 25 years after it was opened by Queen Elizabeth II, on 18th November 1986.
The Planets on the Day Lloyd's Building was Opened
On 18th November 1986, if you could see the five main planets from Earth in the sky, above the Lloyd’s Building, you’d see: The Sun at 25 degrees Scoprio; the Moon (counted as a planet in Astrology) at 11 degrees Gemini; Mercury at 14 degrees in Scorpio, Venus at 6 degrees in Scorpio and Mars at 24 degrees Aquarius.
Astrological Analysis of Lloyd's Building
Would a person or building born on this day show Astrological traits of a Scorpio??With three major planets in Scorpio, crikey YES! Say what you like about Astrology (and even those who have studied it don’t necessarily believe it) but who doesn’t know a Scorpio without a sting in its tail? For example, you think nothing could get worse but then your Scorpio friend or adversary points out something that floors you. S/he says something so devastating, insightful, dangerous or hilarious that you’ll never forget it.?S/he delivers the Scorpio coup de grace! How does this manifest in The Lloyd’s Building?
Maybe it’s something to do with The Lloyd’s Building not being what it seems to be.?Despite the architects’ (Richard Rogers & Partners) vision, not everything, normally inside, can be sited outside.?Take for instance The Lloyd Building’s ventilation system. ?It’s obvious to anyone with knowledge of #HVAC (Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) that most of this has to be inside.?That includes its ductwork and ventilation systems, working to replace stagnant air with fresh – these systems MUST be hygiene audited and cleaned when necessary.?Systems also includes its passive fire safety systems, such as its fire dampers in ductwork/ventilations systems, kept ready to close down compartments and contain fire if they detect smoke or fire. Dampers MUST undergo annual mandatory checks and remedials.

The Sting in the Lloyd's Building's Scorpion Tail
So, maybe it was assumed that Lloyd’s maintenance would be cheap. If it were, the sting in its Scorpion tail would be its actual maintenance costs.?Scorpios like secrets but this secret is out. It is well known that Lloyd’s maintenance costs are high. Not many people know that these costs are the sting in Lloyd’s tail.
