Assurant@Veteran’s ERG recognizes our Public Service Community

As part of Public Service Recognition Week, Assurant's Veteran ERG member Joshua Phillips wanted to share his story as a veteran of the United States Army. He was a junior in high school, when he realized his calling was to help others and to defend our country. Josh enlisted in the Army, and during the ensuing 12 years he served in multiple roles to include as an engineer, military police officer, and in air defense artillery. In addition to serving in the Ohio Army National Guard, Josh was deployed overseas to both Germany and Iraq. What became noticeably clear during this time of his career was the sense of teamwork, compassion, and appreciation for those who he was side by side with on the frontlines. Looking back on his time in the military, Josh was so appreciative for the lessons learned, people met, and experiences gained.?

This week recognizes our opportunity to honor the people who serve or have served our nation as members of the military or federal, state, county, and local government employees. Less than one-half of one percent of our population serves in the military, and only 14.5 percent of the workforce serves in the public sector. While relatively small in number, they are huge in impact. To all of you, and to those that help support you, we are truly grateful. Please join us in extending gratitude and thanks to those who selflessly give of themselves for the benefit of others.
