Assumptions are dangerous!
Assumption - a thing that is accepted as true or as certain to happen, without proof.
This morning I was scrolling through LinkedIn when something caught my eye. It reminded me that sometimes the specification and utilisation of products are not always fully understood. It was about Engineering and how it often gets considered way too late.
We recently received a call about a product that was ‘faulty’. When launching our investigation on site we found that the architect of the system had not fully understood the principals of how the product worked, even though he was an experienced systems designer.
Ask any project manager and they will tell you that if you don’t know how something is going to work and how long you need to build it then your project will over-run and more than likely be over budget too.
Assumptions are dangerous – don’t assume you can use a non-OEM spare and it will work the same, don’t assume that you can use a product from a different industry or application, and it will be fine!
Please check that the product you are going to install is suitable! It will save you time and money in the long run.
