The Associated's longtime president to depart; YNot Lot seeks a new home

  • The Maryland State Board of Elections is seeking to change a critical piece of the state's mail-in ballot process that would allow such ballots to be opened and tallied starting Oct. 1 instead of the Thursday after Election Day, which is the requirement under current law. Baltimore Sun
  • After a judge overturned Adnan Syed's murder conviction this week and released him from prison after more than two decades, the family of the woman who was murdered in the 1999 case is speaking out. CBS Baltimore
  • The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore 's longtime president, Marc Terrill , will step down from the role in June 2024.   • A popular outdoor event space, The Ynot Lot, will move to a new location but hopes to remain in its Station North neighborhood. Baltimore Fishbowl
  • Yet another takeaway from the latest Goucher College poll: 68% of Maryland adults agree schools should teach students about how racism exists in society and its institutions. About 27% of the 1,008 adults in Maryland polled say they disagree. WYPR
  • The Baltimore Visitor Center — the great glass building between Light Street and the Inner Harbor — is open once again after closing in 2020 amid the pandemic. But some volunteers say they are concerned about its reduced operating hours. Baltimore Banner

  • Looking for something to do this weekend? The Trifecta Food Truck and Music Festival is going on September 24 at the Timonium Fairgrounds. The 6th annual event marks the state's largest gathering of food trucks — more than 30 — and will also include live music on two stages, 50-plus local artisans, vendors and fashion trucks. A portion of proceeds will benefit the nonprofit The Claire Marie Foundation, which works to prevent melanoma in adolescents and young adults.
