ASSOCIATE DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR PRINCIPAL GIFTS | ST JOHN'S COLLEGE OXFORD

Founded in 1555 we are one of the older Oxford colleges and one of the academically strongest but unusual in many ways, teaching more undergraduate courses than any other college and being unique amongst the ancient colleges in being able to accommodate all of our undergraduates, for the duration of their course, on the main College site.

St John’s is also amongst the wealthier colleges in terms of its endowment, enabling us to fund a higher number of graduate scholarships than many and to have established a truly ground-breaking access and outreach programme, Inspire. There is a distinct modesty to St John’s but it is fair to say that the College excels - even within a university which is often said to be the best in the world.

While the College has significant resources of its own, much of this success would have been impossible without philanthropy, mostly from the College’s alumni, which has been gaining momentum in recent years and has greatly enriched many aspects of academic life.

While these efforts will continue, the College has been examining its physical estate; from this evaluation, a Masterplan of distinct but interconnected projects has emerged which include being a pioneer in Oxford to decarbonise its existing, ancient buildings and to establish a state-of-the-art renewable energy centre to power the large main site.

The College is also looking to ensure that its significant student accommodation remains top-tier and, just as importantly, that we offer students the very best provision in welfare, as well as a place in which to live and study, with plans for a dedicated student wellbeing centre.

If these ambitions are to be fully realised, it is very likely that St John’s will need to look beyond its alumni to secure principal donations, at the seven and eight-figure level, from philanthropists and other donors across the globe.

We are looking for a dynamic and confident colleague with proven success of personally securing donations at this level; experience of successful fundraising for large capital projects of this kind would be advantageous.

This is an opportunity to take on a senior role at a first-class Oxford college and to work with the College’s leadership to fulfil these ambitions.

Option for either Full Time or Part Time - salary of up to £78,976 plus USS Pension.
