YOUR WORK IS SACRED: Article 3 of 8
In the book of Genesis, Abraham named a place, “Jehovah-jireh,” meaning “the Lord will provide.” It was his way of honoring God for providing a ram, right when he needed it.
God rarely provides food, products, and services, miraculously. He provided manna in the wilderness. Jesus fed 5,000 people by miraculously multiplying fish and bread. In Abraham’s case, God miraculously provided a ram.
Think about what those miraculous provisions meant to the recipients. They were astounded and appreciative. However, many millions of sheep or rams have been provided by God through businesses, over the centuries. Businesses are God’s normal method of provision.
As Jehovah-jireh, God has on his shoulders the responsibility to meet the needs of 7.7 billion people! He typically provides food, clothing, products, and services through businesses. As business professionals, we do the work of God. We provide the needs of the world!
Questions:
1. What comes to your mind first, when thinking about God’s provisions to you?
2. How can you serve your customers better as God’s provider?
Prayer: Father, I worship you as Jehovah-jireh, the Provider. Thank you for meeting the needs of the world. Forgive me for days when I do not see the value of my job. Please remind me that I am your assistant in meeting the world’s needs. Help me to find value in my everyday work. Amen.
