Assessment

Assessment

Happiness lies in the joy of achievement and the thrill of creative effort”?? ― Franklin D. Roosevelt??

The root of the word “assessment” is from the Latin assidere, which means “to sit beside.”? Often assessment is seen as something passive, an act that is forced upon students, instead of an active opportunity to grow and flourish. In the British system, this is often referred to as assessment for learning”, and this is preferable to “assessment of learning”.? I find it an uplifting part of teaching when I see various people working together for a common goal; the partnerships of teachers, students and their families supporting each other to prosper and grow in their learning.? This collaboration, feedback and review is one of the most powerful tools for learning.???

Education comes from within; you get it by struggle and effort and thought.”?? ―?Napoleon Hill?

Learning is always a struggle, as with all muscles, training your brain requires consistent exercise, failure and rebuilding.? I find it is not always the most able or gifted of students that are the most successful, instead it is the students that rise to the challenge and can complete tasks with determination and fortitude.? Couple that with the ability to problem solve, create solutions and learn tasks quickly, and you have people who will succeed whatever pathway they choose.?

Personally, I am always looking for ways to improve and I continuously take on board feedback. This value of excellence is one of the core values of IET, and our goal is one of continuous improvement as we seek to adapt to changing circumstances to provide the very best educational experience we can.????
