Assessment - C08 Empathy

This week, we want to talk to you about "Empathy", this word hides many meanings, and we try to put some order, starting from the definitions of the Italian, French and English dictionaries.

?

From the ? Oxford dictionary ? (English)

“the ability to understand another person's feelings, experience, etc”.

?

From the TRECCANI encyclopaedia (Italian):

“Capacità di porsi nella situazione di un’altra persona o, più esattamente, di comprendere immediatamente i processi psichici dell’altro”.

From the LAROUSSE dictionary (French):

? Faculté intuitive de se mettre à la place d'autrui, de percevoir ce qu'il ressent ?.

(du grec pathos, passion, souffrance, maladie)

?

?What are NOT soft skills?

?

As confirmed by Professor Gian Carlo Cocco , president of TIME TO MIND SA

?

? they are not values (such as honesty or a sense of responsibility);

? they are not attitudes (such as friendliness, enthusiasm, motivation, assertiveness, empathy, respect or autonomy);

? they are not technical skills or a mix of “hard skills” and “soft skills” (such as digital skills, information management, business presentation, or having a strategic vision);

? they are not ultra-complex behaviors (such as leadership competencies or planning processes);

? they are not generic expressions of a psychological and social nature such as: "Interculturality", "Emotional intelligence", "Mental agility" "Empowerment" "Knowing how to inspire collaborators", etc.);

? they are not limited only to the field of interpersonal relationships, but also concern behaviors of an operational, cognitive and managerial nature.

?

As we can see, faced with these definitions and integrations, empathy does not constitute a behavioral competence, a soft skill, but rather it is an attitude, an aptitude.

?

Faced with these definitions and clarifications, we asked ourselves some questions about what capabilities empathy really includes:

?

- for example, do we want to understand if our interlocutor has empathy?

- do we want to understand which specific skills/soft skills does empathy include?

?

We have tried to answer these questions by identifying the 4 soft skills that make up this complex attitude within the www.timetomind.global platform:

?

?This Assessment, in 6 languages, is intended for:

?

- who wants to measure their level of empathy

- whoever wants to submit to others, in the selection phase or within their own organization the level of empathy of a single person or a group of people.

?

At the end of the Assessment, a greater awareness of the strengths and areas to be strengthened will be obtained with a detail for each ability, on three moments of expression.

?

The next step to enhance the soft skill that will be considered a priority for one's own improvement, will be to use the essential guide on the chosen soft skill, to start enhancing it with a self-training tool available to all users of the Assessment.

?

This example of Assessment is part of the current 150 proposals available on our platform.

- Assessment of soft skills on professional profiles

- Assessment of complex soft skills
