Assessing Trustworthiness of the use of Generative AI for higher Education.
Z-Inspection? Initiative and Trustworthy AI Labs
With Z-Inspection? we want to help to establish what we call a Mindful Use of AI (#MUAI).
This pilot project of the Z-inspection? initiative??(https://z-inspection.org) aims at assessing the use of Generative AI in higher level education considering specific use cases.
For this pilot project, we will assess the ethical, technical, domain-specific (i.e. education) and legal implications of the use of Generative AI-product/service within the university context.
There are already a number of generic recommendations from a variety of institutions on the use of Generative AI in higher education.
?You will find a list here: https://z-inspection.org/pilot-project-assessing-trustworthiness-of-the-use-of-generative-ai-for-higher-education/
We follow the UNESCO guidance for policymakers on AI and education. In particular the policy recommendation?6. : Pilot testing, monitoring and evaluation, and building an evidence base.
Approach
An interdisciplinary team of experts will assess the trustworthiness of Generative AI for selected use cases in High Education using the Z-Inspection? process:?https://z-inspection.org?
Expected Output: a white paper and a peer reviewed journal article as best practice and a set of recommendations for each specific use case.?Such recommendations could be also useful for helping clarify the Guidelines that each university is creating for this.

President of European Education New Society (ENSA) Association
1 年Nature Careers has published on 2023/10/16 a very interesting paper "How ChatGPT is transforming the postdoc experience" (https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-023-03235-8), which shows that almost one third of researchers are reporting using chatbots. Even if, conversely, two thirds do not feel that #AI had yet changed their day-to-day work or career plans, it marks a big trend, deemed to grow swiftly, regarding the rise of AI in science. It seems clear that the field of research is one of those professions that will be impacted by #ChatGPT, not in terms of job losses, but in a more positive tone, in terms of assistance in daily tasks, e.g., for generating, editing and troubleshooting code. I believe that Z-Inspection? Initiative and Trustworthy AI Labs will include in its work a deep dive into the trustworthy use of generative AI by postdoc researchers. ChatGPT may prove to be, in this respect a "gift of time" allowing researchers of all disciplines to accelerate the process of their work and drastically reduce the time from thinking to results, from laboratory to production.
This is great news. I, personally and as president of #ENSA (European Education New Society Association), fully endorse and support this pilot project of the well known Z-inspection initiative. It is time to assess the impact and potential of generative AI on Universities and, in this respect, I believe the Z-inspection process, in combination with the European Commission #ALTAI and UNESCO policy guidance, is best placed to achieve significant and inspiring results.
