Assessing the results that populate when someone does an internet search for your name - "Brand"
An enormous part of branding is making sure your brand is represented accurately and consistently at all times. One therefore needs to manage their online reputation by monitoring and taking charge of the results that come back when someone carries out an internet search on you. Some basic points that need to be kept in mind for this purpose are:
(1) Assess your online presence from the perspective of a hiring manager/recruiter. Try 'googling' yourself or searching your name in a free background check website such as www.pipl.com.
(2) Build up substantial content over time so that the search results full up with more relevant and industry specific content. Public old slideshows/articles that you might have written to social sharing/skill showcase sites so that the web has more work related content to display on your name.
(3) Monitor the above monthly. If someone has mentioned you in a wrong/unprofessional light on the internet you need to know it right away. The only way to make sure you are aware of this is by periodically searching your name and monitor what pops up.
(4) Put your resume online. This can be searched by recruiters and discovered by talent hunters in search of talent. Having the resume online increases your odds of being found. (Receiving a call from a recruiter who found you online and was so impressed that they want to schedule an interview right away is a GREAT feeling). The beauty of online resumes is that you do not need to be a web designer to enjoy the benefits!
