Assemble your “Dream Team” that’s Built to Achieve Success
MBO Partners
We make it easy for independent consultants and their clients to work together.
In The Great Realization, we encourage businesses to optimize their workforce mix to supercharge business performance. However, engaging the right blend of employees to full-time contractors is only the first step toward workforce optimization. The next step involves properly incorporating skilled ICs to work well with full-time employees (FTE).
Building your team is similar to building a sturdy wall: if your employees are the bricks, then independents are the mortar that holds the project together. If your ICs and FTEs have mismatched strengths, a project could take longer to run or worse, fall apart.
With that being said, you must identify the strengths of all players working to ensure skills are complementary and that the right “balance” is in play to execute a project.
To successfully assemble blended teams with aligned skills, here are some tips to keep in mind:
●????? Have a clear picture of your project and its aims so you know which unique skills should be prioritized.
●????? Focus on the outcomes when engaging ICs. For example, if good communication is essential to your project, ensure this is an interview criteria, or schedule regular check-ins with all team members to keep alignment flowing. ?
●????? Talk to your prospective team members about their motivators to do well at work. Some people enjoy executing tasks, while others excel at planning and improving systems behind the scenes. Create a blend in each team, so you don’t over-index on strategists or “do-ers” in any one scenario.
●????? Track whether your ICs and FTEs are working well together through key performance indicators such as their responsiveness to each other and feelings of job satisfaction.??
Knowing your ICs’ skills, being laser-focused on the motivators of everyone, and making sure they feel satisfied will significantly improve your team’s dynamic.
As a leader, remember that a dynamic and well-rounded team makes a huge difference in your firm’s day-to-day operations. By identifying your team members’ talents and deploying them to the appropriate roles, you’ll have a dream team that will bring you success!?
