Gershkovich’s prison sentence
US journalist Evan Gershkovich was sentenced to 16 years in a Russian prison. Politico says Gershkovich was accused of espionage, but evidence of the the Kremlin's claim isn’t public.
Newsweek says the sentence infuriated onlookers: They slammed Gershkovich's 16-year sentence as “disgraceful” -- U.S. officials and journalists condemned the espionage charges as a sham.
The publisher of the WSJ was one such critic . Almar Latour said “Journalism is not a crime, and we will not rest until he’s released. This must end now”.
The NYT was somewhat optimistic , though: Gershkovich's 16-year sentence could set up a prisoner swap.

Assassination sneakers
The Trump assassination attempt inspired a pair of $299 sneakers. The NYT says a Trump-linked website sells shoes featuring his blood-streaked image.
Business Insider accused Trump of “cashing in” on the attempt: If all 5,000 pairs sold at $299 each, the total revenue would be around $1.4 million.
An MSNBC Op : Ah, more Trump-branded merch. The guy's a full-blown brand now -- his supporters can choose from an endless supply to buy.
