The floor was buzzing all weekend with over 2,000 physicians in attendance. Trends from the show included the application of AI in pain management, minimally invasive spine techniques, and advancements in neuromodulation aimed at improving patient care and clinical outcomes. Dynamic discussions fostered vibrant debates on device development and physician preferences, emphasizing the importance of training and understanding. Policy discussions centered on improving access to care and examining how regulations affect medical practice and patient outcomes. Sessions on enhancing patient safety explored methods to improve care quality and minimize risks, ensuring the safety and well-being of patients, a highly discussed topic today in the medical field

Our goal for every conference is to take a deeper dive into the latest innovations on the market and help identify trailblazer companies and their leading technologies. ASPN offered a ton of insight into what’s new, what’s working and what’s trending in MedTech. Check out our comprehensive Buzz below on trends and top innovations.

Pain Management and Neuromodulation

Pain management and neuromodulation were at the forefront of discussions at ASPN 2024. The latest innovations in this theme focus on improving chronic pain relief through advanced technologies, including minimally invasive procedures and cutting-edge neuromodulation devices. These developments aim to provide patients with more effective and lasting pain relief, minimizing side effects and enhancing overall quality of life.

SPR Therapeutics, Inc. introduced the Sprint PNC System, a breakthrough in chronic pain management, celebrating treating over 30,000 patients with the SPRINT? PNS System. They unveiled long-term data on Sprint PNS and initial updates from the Monarch Trial, highlighting the device's durability and short-term, 60-day treatment.

Saluda Medical showcased the Evoke? SCS system, featuring real-time closed-loop technology designed to optimize pain relief and minimize side effects. Clinical trial data demonstrated the system's effectiveness in managing chronic pain, providing significant relief compared to traditional SCS systems.

Stratus Medical presented interim 12-month clinical outcome data on Cervical RFA for axial neck pain with their Nimbus RFA device, which significantly decreases procedural time, allowing for more patient treatments and improved revenue opportunities for hospitals and surgery centers.

Nalu Medical, Inc. hosted sessions on advancements in peripheral nerve stimulation, discussing the COMFORT RCT publication and the health economics of the Nalu PNS solution. The Nalu Neurostimulation System, a minimally invasive, battery-free device implanted under the skin, offers significant benefits for managing chronic pain and can be upgraded without surgery.

Mainstay Medical presented five-year outcomes for ReActiv8, a neurostimulation treatment for chronic low back pain. They discussed multifidus dysfunction recognition and shared new five-year patient data, highlighting the long-term improvements offered by the minimally invasive ReActiv8 procedure, the first and only neurostimulation therapy for this condition.

Minimally Invasive and Non-Surgical Solutions

Minimally invasive and non-surgical solutions continue to gain traction in the MedTech industry. These advancements offer patients less invasive treatment options that reduce recovery times, lower risks, and improve clinical outcomes. By focusing on non-surgical approaches, these solutions aim to enhance patient care, provide quicker relief, and decrease the overall burden on healthcare systems.

Vertos Medical showcased their groundbreaking Mild? (Minimally Invasive Lumbar Decompression) procedure, celebrating over 100,000 patients treated with Mild. They unveiled the latest data from the MOTION Study, demonstrating significant improvements in lumbar spinal stenosis treatment.

PainTEQ highlighted treating over 10,000 patients with LinQ, a minimally invasive SI joint pain relief procedure. LinQ In Office, a patient-focused, minimally invasive procedure, involves implanting a small bone allograft into the SI joint, stabilizing and fusing the dysfunctional joint. Patients typically resume daily activities within weeks, depending on their recovery.

Captiva Spine debuted the ASC-READY WatchTower? ROAM Spine Navigation System, showcasing its ability to navigate the SI Joint with TransFasten Posterior and Lateral SI fusion systems. The WatchTower ROAM system emphasizes accuracy, efficiency, and reduced radiation exposure.

Comprehensive Spinal Solutions

Comprehensive spinal solutions were another major focus at this year's conference. Innovations in this area are designed to address a wide range of spinal conditions with modular and versatile systems. These solutions aim to provide optimal motion restriction, improve patient outcomes, and offer non-surgical alternatives for spinal injuries and disorders. The goal is to deliver effective care that is both efficient and readily available to patients in need.

Aspen Medical Products presented the first-ever off-the-shelf cervical to sacrum spinal solution. The VRTX System includes a Collar, CTO, LSO, TLSO, and CTLSO, designed for optimal motion restriction for multi-level spinal injuries. Its modular design ensures easy application and readiness for patients needing effective care, offering a non-surgical option as required by guidelines.

The future looks bright post-ASPN 2024, with new data, innovative solutions, and promising advancements in pain and neuroscience. If you attended this year's conference, let us know in the comments what you were most excited to see at the show!
