Aspiring creator? Broadcast yourself! Now.

Aspiring creator? Broadcast yourself! Now.

Have you ever experienced that you are handing people the key to creating easy success for themselves, but they do not get it all? They seem to listen, but they do not seem to understand, despite the message being transparent and straightforward, easy to comprehend. It’s been happening to me for a while now.

Whenever I am approached for advice about how to launch best (alt.: revive) a career as a creator in the moving picture industries (aka film, video, etc.), I tell them to start creating and publishing on YouTube, at least for a while. “Forget about Cinema, TV, and all sorts of high-on-prestige distribution (streaming) platforms,” I say. “Go, create, and publish relevant things on YouTube instead.”

Because: It’s so easy. And it comes with a long list of advantages. Like, everyone knows about the platform. It’s a super well-functioning website and a great app already installed on most mobile devices around you. This also means you can access a global audience from the second one of your published efforts, incl. optional Social Media components. You get your content hosted free of charge on a super well-maintained market leader platform that is easy to embed all over the internet and on most TV Apps, devices, set-top boxes, etc. Moreover, you enter an active marketplace with an audience waiting for you already, as no matter how small or broad the niche you are producing for, it’s happening on YouTube one way or the other. Uploading content is easy (you probably have the App on your own devices, too.) Your publishing costs are next to nothing (no distribution fees … no lengthy debates with potential distributors, etc., etc.)

Also, you learn much up-to-date, honest intel about how to reach your audience from the second one of the venture. And, this being probably most valuable for those creatives and people hungry to bring a message across, you can start publishing immediately—no windows, no greenlighting from commissioners, no holdbacks, or any other time-consuming “release” preparations. There is no lengthy process of sending out decks (that took weeks, if not months, to build), finding financiers and partners, applying for grants, hammering out voluminous paperwork to frame agreements, etc. Instead, read YouTube’s community guidelines, follow their rules, start broadcasting yourself, and create a fair chance to build your relevant bubble soon and monetize your productions directly. Sure, getting one of the rare chances of producing for and publishing in Cinema, on TV, and on all sorts of high-prestige distribution (streaming) platforms boosts a creator’s ego like nothing else. But, on top of things, here is the ultimate pro tip: One might land a much more impressive gig on one of those highly desired channels mentioned if you have built a strong position with your unique content on YouTube.
