Asking for your support on the Longest Weekend
You know I'm passionate about the fight against Alzheimer's disease and about bicycling. That's why I want to tell you that this June, I'm biking the weekend before The Longest Day? to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Association.
Ten years ago I organized the?Take Mom Home Bike Tour?to St. Louis to deliver my mom's ashes to her childhood home, and to raise money for Alzheimer's. This year's ride is not nearly that ambitious but will be challenging nonetheless. My team and I will ride around?Steens Mountain?in SE Oregon, a journey of about 200 miles in two days, including a climb to the top of Steens Mountain. The Longest Day is the day with the most light — the summer solstice. And it's the day the Alzheimer's Association calls on everyone to fight Alzheimer's disease by raising funds and awareness for care, support, and research.
By supporting me and my team as we bike on The Longest Weekend, we can stand up to the darkness of Alzheimer's.
This year, as with previous years, I'm dedicating my efforts to my mom, Estelle 'Tel' Fotsch, and her sister, Florence Franta. Both suffered from Alzheimer's in their final years.
