Asking for help is a skill

Asking for help is a valuable skill that can lead to growth and success. Nobody knows everything. Even the most innovative and successful people ask for help when needed. Asking for help doesn’t mean you’re incapable; it simply means you recognize the value of other people’s knowledge and experience. Though just don't ask for help. Add a few steps to your ask to make it better for everyone.

Pinpoint the exact area where you’re stuck

When you ask for help, it’s essential to be specific about what you need help with. This helps the person you’re asking to understand precisely what you’re struggling with and enables you to get the most relevant and helpful advice.

Document the help you receive

When someone helps you, take notes and document what they said. This can be useful in the future if you need to refer back to their advice. It also shows the person that you value their time and expertise.

Keep your ego out of the process

Asking for help can sometimes feel like admitting failure or incompetence, but it’s important to remember that nobody knows everything. Keeping your ego out of the process means being open to feedback and advice, even if it’s not what you want to hear. It also means being grateful for the help you receive and acknowledging the person who helped you.

Asking for help benefits you and allows others to share their knowledge and experience. By asking for help, you’re opening yourself up to new perspectives and solutions. So, don’t be afraid to ask for help when needed – it’s good for everybody involved!
