asking for help

Where are my helpers at?
?????♀?Me too. As a helper, I've found it hard to ask for help myself. It's something I've been working on.
Not taking on all of the tasks at home or at work. Not always saying yes. And then asking for backup, support and help. Even when I don't absolutely need it.
So I hired a cleaning service to deep clean my house.
And it feels so damn good!! I didn't realize how amazing it would be - to have clean blinds and shining floors. To have the area behind the toilet cleaned. Was it absolutely necessary? No. Could I have done it myself? Technically yes (even though I wouldn't have cleaned so thoroughly).
The old me thought that being "responsible" and "independent" meant that asking for help was for others, not me. I felt like I should be able to figure it out on my own - it wasn't good to ask for help. That I should be able to clean my house - it's not that big anyway. We don't have pets or kids, it's just Adam and me. But this thinking just reinforced my belief that I wasn't good enough if I had to ask for help.
That was my old story. But now I see that we deserve to ask for help. And actually, by asking for help, we're giving the person helping us a gift. Because it feels so good to help.
We don't need to feel guilty, shame or less than in asking for help. We don't need to figure it out on our own. We get to use other people's talents, we get to let them do what they're best at. And in doing so, we save ourselves time so we can do what we're best at. We get to truly appreciate them when we allow ourselves to be helped.
I've been training my brain that it's actually so much fun to ask for help. That it's a gift for myself and the helper. And I'll tell you, my house definitely appreciates it!
And if you're in Columbus, OH and interested in an amazing house cleaner, let me know! I'd be happy to refer you to my amazing crew ??

3 年For me, it was a pride thing. Life has taught me it’s ok, and often necessary, to ask for help. Personal or professional. Totally agree it’s a sign of strength, and I would also add confidence.
